Non-Va residents purchasing a gun

Post by cheepz »

Hey Guys,
I posted a while back about concealed carry near MCV/VCU campus. The issue back then was that I felt uncomfortable walking my one of my girl friends home late at night in downtown richmond, which is also near MCV campus. And I was worried if I got a concealed weapon that I would be violating VCU's rules. Now I have moved, and dont really have to deal with that as much, but would like to purchase a firearm here. The problem is that I am a Florida resident, and Va does not sell to non-va residents - which is cool. My questions is, are there any neighboring states that do? Or do I have to go back to FL and bring my gun up here? I dont want to break the law or do anything that might jeopardize my educational future. But I just miss going to the range with my own weapon. I even miss cleaning my own gun. Not to mention I would probably sleep better at night. Thanks for the advice in advance :D

Sadly your only options are you could purchase it here but you would have to have it sent to an FFL in Florida then you would have to pick it up from them and bring it up to VA. Or get a VA driver License and establish residency ,wait the required time and then purchase the gun here in VA FFL Or Private ,Thirdly go back to FL and bring your gun here. . IMHO the gun act of 1968 needs to be revamped a bit to allow some purchase leeway for honest citizens for private and FFL sales

I saw this: http://www.cegunshows.com/ShowInformati ... fault.aspx

But even if I were to buy a long gun, I dont know what second ID I could use to say I reside in Florida. Sigh. Looks like I am taking a trip to Florida soon lol.

You said in the other post you have a FL carry license....don't you also have a FL drivers license?

I guess I was "lying" about the cwl. At the time I was waiting for my cwl paper work to go through and was sure it would be in the mail, considering I had waited over 3 months and it still hadn't come in. Because of the Obama gun scare, it was taking almost 3 months to process paper work for cwls in Florida. I, being an idiot, forgot to send proof of citizenship (passport), so my paperwork never went through. After reading the replies from that post, and realizing my paperwork was on hold, i just decided to forget it. Sorry about that confusion. Do you know of any other state issued IDs exist besides a drivers license?

The State of VA also issues a State ID card ,, same place as a DL down at DMV.
