Beach Vacation Carry (in VA)

Post by FrankG0 »

I searched and could not find a discussion so I will ask:
Planning to go to VA Beach for a few days.
Should I take the gun? (I have CHP)
Leave it in hotel room while at beach?
Leave it locked in car?
Leave it at front desk (in their safe)?
What do you fellow owners do or suggest when on vacation?

I wouldn't leave it locked in the car. Sure, the odds of your car being stolen or broken into are probaby slim, but still...

I'm not sure where you'll be staying, but in most hotels in which we've stayed recently we've found safes in the rooms, usually bolted to the floor in the closet area, which allow the guest to set a programmable access code. I've not had an problems. Not all hotels may have in-room safes, though. If you're going to carry onto the beach (in a gym bag or something), I'd just be sure that it's within reach at all times and presumably there'd be someone to watch it should you decide to go for a swim.

My vote would be to find a room with a safe, though.

- You can OC or CC while vacationing at VA Beach. But better to CC if you can to draw less attention to yourself.

- Never leave anything in a hotel room unless it's locked in a safe. Ask the hotel ahead of time to see if they offer rooms with a safe.

- I have a small gun safe with a cable lock for when I have to leave my gun in the car or truck. If you don't, hide it as best you can and hope for the best. Just be aware of your surroundings while you un-holster. You never know who is watching.

Hope you enjoy your stay! :surfing: :shipwrecked:

I tuck my .50 AE into my Speedo on the beach. Yeah, I'm part Asian, so I get a few stares, but I know people just jealous.

Hell, just tell them it's Shark Week (it really is, btw, on Discovery) and that you're better of safe than shark food. ;)

Somehow I get this mental vision of a real skinny dude wearing a bright blue speedo skin tight swim suit sporting a great big pistol shoved into an IWB...

Good question. My mental image involved a bikini and a small pistol like a PPK.

DK, you are starting to make me wonder again. I think I am going to have to talk to Young about you.I like the idea of no bikini and a PPK/S.

I'm glad to have put that which can not be unseen in DK's mind's eye. Gunderwood, I'd never wear a bikini. Those damned strings don't hold up enough.

I was thinking about idealized beach carry...not you specifically, but rather a OC female model...I guess I didn't specify though.

Leave it locked in car? - If you have some sort of strong box, or your gun is cheap and you wouldn't mind loosing it

I was at the beach last month for a few days and carried every where I went. No problems at all.

Speaking of VA Beach and bikinis reminds me of the law. Two lawyers were walking along the beach and saw a particularly good looking gal in a string bikini. One lawyer said to the other; "man, how would like to screw her?" The other replied, "out of what?"

Sorry all, I've been talking to lawyers all week and my mind is not yet back to working right.

I guess i wasn't clear. The gun would only be away from me when I am in the water with the family either in the ocean or in the pool. Those are the only times I would not be able to carry it.
So if there is no safe in the room what to do with it so it is protected from theft?
That is what I meant, sorry I wasn't clear.
The car would be in a hotel garage so not in the sun. I guess I could lock it in there when swimming hidden near the jack where no one would look for valuables, hopefully! The glovebox locks but I would not trust it except in emergencies and only for short periods of time. It seems like one good yank would probably open it. Thanks for all the responses :beach:
