Re: Virginia Tax Holiday
What strikes me funny about this is that when a state government wants to increase an economic acitivy on something it reduces or eliminates the sales tax on something.
Why then don't governments see the connection--lower taxes=increased economic activity?
Oh, they do see the connection; but it's a lot easier to control the populace with confiscatory taxes!

I can't believe "Eligible Items" doesn't include firearms or ammo to protect life and liberty in the event of said emergency!

Good point, but their idea of an emergency would a hurricane or similar weather event. Of course, if you remember the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the citizens of New Orleans needed to protect themselves from looters.CCFan wrote:I can't believe "Eligible Items" doesn't include firearms or ammo to protect life and liberty in the event of said emergency!

That's what made me think about it- since their list is so hurricane-centric, it just made me think about the situation in New Orleans. Of course, the police also confiscated their weapons, so I hope nothing like that ever happens in Virginia... lessons to be learned!OakRidgeStars wrote:

I have most of that stuff on hand all the time, plus a few things they don't have listed.
What gets me is 1,000 or less for a generator, you can't buy a decent generator for a thousand or less. Maybe a small one that will light a few a few lights and a TV. That sure won't help out your freezer or fridge, or run your well pump.
Thats very generous of the gov. to be looking out for us like that, they might just be looking to boost sales.
I've heard about these tax holidays but never knew what was tax free before.

Oh well, would be too much to expect for ammo to be on the list. I do need more water (cant have enough of that) and batteries. I've been stocking up now for a few months - and not in preparation for a weather event.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...
