The Marksman (Newport News, Va)

If you got a good deal or great service from a shop or range and you want to brag about them, here's the place to do it. Likewise, if you are unhappy about someone's service or feel like you've been ripped off, we want to know that too!

The Marksman (Newport News, Va)

Post by offroadcouple208 »

[Moderator Comment: This thread appears to be an attack on the folks at "The Marksman" by the folks at "Quartermaster Police Supply". I may be wrong, but that's how I see it. Not very business-like...please refrain from starting similar threads in the future.]

Note To All:

The Marksman in newport new is now under new mangement. The guy (George) that is running it now, well is a very rude and unfriendly person. And to top it off he as three young thugs (one of which is his son) running the place. Becafe if you go to use there range, I hear its very dangerous now days.

PS: If anyone had any good dealing with the Hubors (Zach, Josh or their Dad), they now own the Quatermaster Police Suppy in Newport News. Check them out.
Tell them Josh & Dan sent them...

* Moved to Gun Shop/Range/Gunsmith Reviews section

It's a shame to see any business operate as if they don't need customers to be successful. I predict another change in management in the near future.

Thanks for the review, JC.

You know,I've let this ride and wanted to post to this, but decided not to.But,since it keeps bothering me I'll go ahead. It's totally unprofessional to use your friends to post on a public board to promote your business.A business should stand on it's own merit and not subject itself to gossip and slander. You should be ashamed, you obviously are not because you've done this elsewhere and you are very obvious. Why don't you prove yourself with how you treat customers instead of lowering yourself to these type of tactics.

Thank you

This was my experience , I went to sign up for a concealed weapon class yesterday at this place called
"The Marksman" when I got there they were having some type of customer appreciation day, now as I was ear hustling I heard them (some employees) talking about this blog that is on this site. They mentioned how the blog was talking about there conduct towards customers. So I decided to join the forum and find the blog. Now I understand that yesterday was a special event, but if they run there dailey operation anyway like they did yesterday then the person writing those negative blogs is no more then some one being a little bitch trying to promote themselves or a business of there own. Reason being I work hard for my money and I set out only to spend $50 dollars for a class but then I found out it was $60, not a problem. When I left out I spent $734.52, because these guys new it all and the good thing was they could show and prove in black and white everything they were talking about. I had been researching a laser sight for my Glock, and it just so happens that two of the guys that were helping me was George and his son, I did not know this until later on, but these to guys were able to show me everything I was looking for and was able to order everything I was looking for. I dont know what day the haters went, but there was 11 employees I counted bending over backwards to help me with every question I had from classes to holsters, to range bags then on top of this some ladies in the back feed me brownies, stew and apple cider. I saw no unhappy people in the building and about 20 people were there outside of the employees. I mean come on people is this what we do is tear our fellow man down becuase we are losers in our own lives? These guys are on point. I saw no thugs at all only serious good natured profesionals. Really were else can you buy a S&W 38 spcl for the "nite stand" for $185? I am on my way back today to buy it because I ran out of money yesterday. So i will see the true test being if they are consistant with there service today, and if I am wrong I will definatly apolagize for my remarks and misconception.

This my my first good look at this thread. I've never been to either of the establishments listed here. I have, however, noted that the original post in this thread was repeated three other times throughout the Tidewater and Merchant Reviews sections of the board.

I have deleted the other three posts, since they are duplicates.

I have to agree that this seems like a pretty indecent way to bring in business.

"Have you heard how horrible the owners of XYZ gun shop treat their customers? Maybe you should visit ABC gun shop instead! Here's the address!"

Not sure when my last visit to the marksman was (some time in August) but I had no problems. They wanted to check the ammo I would be using at their range, but other than that they were very pleasant and had a few positive comments about the CBOB I was carrying. Plan on hitting the range again tomorrow evening with a buddy, I'll let ya know if anythings changed.

I must say that I smell a rat here. I have shopped and shot at the Marksman for years. To include when it was located further down Jefferson avenue by the RV dealership. I can honestly say that at no time has the Marksman been run by a better group of people. They have made several improvements and genuinely care about their customers. It is because of this that I recently became a member and will continue to give them my business. I hate to see people use forums like this to slander a reputable business and the good people that work there. All I can say is what comes around goes around...they're number one on the Peninsula in my book!! :first:

A rat is probably too strong given what we know. It could have been a bad day/experience that left one customer unhappy. It happens even to the best businesses and it happens for a lot of reasons. I haven't been to either shop, so I can't comment on them.

I shot at the Marksman once this past August. I found it to be a pleasant experience. As GreyGhost says, they check your ammo, no steal is allowed and no rapid fire. There was only one salesperson on the counter and he had other customers so I had to wait a few minutes but he did his best to get me on the range as quickly as he could. The range could use some upgrading to the lighting and ventilation but other than that it was fine. We'll be spending some more time in the area next summer so I expect to shoot there more often next year. Overall... to the Marksman!
