I love my Mk III, but it's not for sale, so I guess it's out of your range!

Second the Ruger Mk II or III. Probably the most prolific .22lr pistol ever.

Another recommendation for the Ruger MK II, had one for years never had a lick of trouble out of it. Also have a Smith and Wesson 622 and never had a real problem with it either.

They don't make those anymore right? If you're looking used, sure.GrayGhost wrote:Another recommendation for the Ruger MK II, had one for years never had a lick of trouble out of it. Also have a Smith and Wesson 622 and never had a real problem with it either.
I don't like the cheaper S&W like the 22A. The Ruger is a much better gun IMO. The 41 is sweet, but costs at least twice as much as the poster was asking for.

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
Take a good look at the Beretta Neos.
Well under your price point and has been rock-solid since I bought it. It has digested just about everthing I've fed it, mostly bulk. Out of about 1000 rounds I think I've had only 2 FTF and 4 FTE using bulk ammo (Federal and even Thunderbolts *bleech*!). I put an inexpensive red-dot on it (aging eyes) and out to 25yards its spot on.
If you are around Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn this Thursday night look me up as I should have it with me.
Cheers
Chris

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
The wife and I have 1 Mark 1, 2 mark ii and 2 Mark III's . I have had to replace a few worn springs I love them all but pefer the Mark II over the Mark III. The loaded chamber indicator on the left side has caused me a few stove pipes. I really like the mag release on the iii it is much better then the release on the Mark II. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the Ruger 22 Mark pistols.

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
Thanks to all! Sounds like MKII is the overall winner, better start saving
(side note to Chris) I'll try to make my way over to Silver Eagle Thursday, as I saw a neo with detachable stock at a gun show that really looked sweet.

Several nice models to chose from on www.gunbroker.com in the $200 - $400 range.
Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
Yes the Mark III is an awesome pistol I love mine. They can be a little tricky to dissassemble the first few time if your not paying attention. I also reccomend the forum below as ti shows alot of detailed dissassembly and mods for the pistol itself. (like how to take the spring out of the LCI if it causes your paticular pistol to jam)

I always hear great things about the Rugers mentioned above and also the Browning Buckmark's.
I've also heard good stuff about the Beretta Neos.

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
I am lucky I got a Smith & Wesson Model # 41 with an extra 7 1/2" target Bbl. for bullseye shooting over 40 year's ago and still use it today. This is way out of the price range that you are talking about, but I also bought a Ruger MK 2 when I was going through the Ruger Armorer's school many year's ago and would have to say that you can't go wrong with any of their handguns. I just don't have much use for their none adjustable sight revolvers.

Ruger MK11. Mine has well over 20K rounds through it and has only been completly apart for cleaning once, and that was back in about '94.
Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
BUMP!!!
I've had the Beretta Neos and its not nearly as nice as my Mark III. Also, there are more accessories and custom parts for Rugers than most other pistols. As an example:

But even if you dont want to spend thousands of dollars you can still get more stuff thats cheap.

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
I've gotta 19th the Ruger. I would hunt around a little and get a MK II though, less moving parts than the mk III which can SOMETIMES mean less issues. The MKIII has a LCI (Loaded chamber indicator) on the side of the gun that has been known to cause ejection issues, but again its only a SOMETIMES issue. There is a ton of happy MK III owners out there, so its certainly not a big enough issue to stress over.
I just traded my MK II and regret every minute of it. For the amount that I had invested in it to the $ I saved over shooting .45 or 9mm an equal amount, the gun paid for itself quickly.
I found a stock MKII Comp Target WITH a burris 3x handgun scope for $350 in the valley trader(a steal), then scored a deal on a VQ accuracy kit and VQ laminate target grips at the Chantilly gun show, picked up some other small goodies online then found someone to trade the Burris 3x for a Burris FastFire reddot site... so all in all I only had maybe $650 into the gun and it outshot me every time(not hard to do btw).
So for $500, you can do great things with it.

Re: reliable .22 semi-auto pistol
The Ruger Mark series are awesome. My Mark I Target with a bull barrel still shoots perfectly. I haven't replaced anything on it in over 30 years of shooting, though I only shoot standard velocity target ammo out of it. I've outshot people with WAY more expensive target pistols over the years. If I were to buy another .22 pistol today, it would definitely be a Ruger Mark something.
