1960 Polish Milled AK-47 - New Gun!

Post by TheGodfather »

I was finally able to pick up my order last night. I'm too busy to shoot it this week, but I plan on trying it out sometime in the next week or so. Gunderwood will most likely be joining me and will probably be able to provide a better review than I can. :ak47:

I will be posting pictures, but first I want to polish it up. Any suggestions on what kind of polish I should use?

Polish what?

I mean, I think every AK should have a chromed bolt and carrier, but that's not polishing. It's a combat rifle, polish is usually considered counterproductive.

It is usually a good idea to give it a good cleaning (especially the bore) and lube the moving parts.

Take it apart and clean it well. Most guns shipped lubed, but the lube is more for long term rust prevention then actual lubercation. Relube it.

I think you're asking about something like this: Birchwood Casey Barricade.

I use this on all of my guns after cleaning. It provides no lubercation, but it keeps the rust off. Spray it on a rag (I use silicon cloths) and wipe down the whole gun. If you do it right, there will be a little excess on the metal. Just go back with a drier part of the rag and all is well.

Thanks! I'll check that stuff out. Is there any specific store I have to buy that from?

I did find some wood floor polish in a cabinet that I used on the stock. It really helped bring out some of the beauty of the wood. I'm not finished with it yet, but it's looking good already.

Last night, I met up with Garrett (gunderwood) and we tried the gun out for the first time.

It's a SWEET gun. I wished I could've shot it alot more, but the kick was so powerful it wore my arm out pretty fast. I didn't realize how strong it was until I got home and discovered a large bruise on my shoulder.

Ya, it was a virgin AK. No safety lever marks, nothing.

Shot well/like every other AK. Fit and finish was good too. Forgot how hot they get under the wood grips though.

Thanks for the chance to shoot another AK. Where did you get it from?

No problem. It was great to meet another VGOF member.

There's a cure for that. SBR it. Seriously. It's amazing what taking a few inches off an AK will do to the felt recoil. A standard AK versus one with even a 14" barrel is night and day.

It's totally worth the cost. At least to me. Think about it.

I am having an issue finding a Lower hand guard replacement that will fit my rifle. Does anyone know of a good site or a store when I can buy a upper and lower rail kit that will fit my rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
