AK-47 STG 2000-C Your thoughts?
I'm considering buying an AK-47 and I came across the STG 2000-C. I noticed that it claims to be American made.
Can anyone tell me anything about it? Any experience with it?

Not good from what Google tells me: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=23222
They are not US made, just use enough US parts to comply with 922r. One comment notes that they use the US made mag as a part, so you are in violation of 922r if you use a foreign mag.
The best AKs are these IMO: http://www.robarm.com/mainpage.htm
A friend of mine owned one and we would have a contest to see who could hit a clay pigeon at 100 yards with irons and off hand first. My AR always one and it didn't matter who shot it. That is as good as they come (milled RPK reciever, etc.).

I was just pointing them out. They use to be about $600, but I don't think they are being made anymore and now they are going for more than a basic AR. I've seen used models for sale north of $1k which is just plain silly IMO.TheGodfather wrote:Thanks! I'll check 'em out.gunderwood wrote:The best AKs are these IMO: http://www.robarm.com/mainpage.htm

I would check out Kreb's and Arsenal. They are rather expansive compared to like a WASR-10.

Yeah, they're just a little out of my price range. I'm starting to consider the Polish 1960 Milled AK's.Jakeiscrazy wrote:I would check out Kreb's and Arsenal. They are rather expansive compared to like a WASR-10.

Cool seems to have American made parts to not something you see in AKs often.

This is what Classic Arms had to say about it.Jakeiscrazy wrote:Cool seems to have American made parts to not something you see in AKs often.
THIS MAY VERY WELL BE THE FINEST, MOST WELL BUILT AK RIFLE ON THE MARKET TODAY. ASSEMBLED FROM LIKE NEW POLISH AK KITS WITH NEW BARRELS AND U.S. MADE MILLED RECEIVERS. THIS IS THE MERCEDES BENZ OF AK RIFLES. VERY WELL MADE WITH TIGHT TOLERANCES AND HIGH QUALITY WORKMANSHIP. IF YOU ARE AN AK RIFLE COLLECTOR OR IF YOU SIMPLY WANT YOUR ONLY ONE TO BE THE BEST AVAILABLE, THEN YOU MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE.
THEY ARE EXPENSIVE, BUT THEY ARE WORTH IT.

Eh, milled receivers on AKs are a waste of money. All it gets you is a heavier gun - there is no durability advantage. The Soviets found the milled guns actually wear out faster than the stamped. (If you were getting a full auto, you'd also have to worry about the receiver cracking, something that just doesn't happen on the stamped guns.)
They do look pretty in the pictures though.

Milled vs. Stamped is an argument that's still going on, but I didn't buy this gun simply because it's milled. I bought it because it has so many positive reviews. It seems that everyone that buys this gun loves it. In fact, I haven't found a negative review yet (of course, I'm sure there's one out there...there always is.).Diomed wrote:Eh, milled receivers on AKs are a waste of money. It's all good. They're certainly very nice looking guns - it's one of the few fullsize AKs I'd consider having (I prefer the shortys).

Hi, i just want to clear up some of the "miss information" about the I.O STG 2000c. The rifle used to be made out of Romanian made receiver and parts, but due to quality issue I.O now makes the receiver in house 100% in the U.S. a lot of QC issue related to the STG 2000 are old stg2000 rifles, here are couple articles you guys can read about the New Stg2000c.
This article came straight from guns-ammo.
http://www.ioinc.us/articles/doc_downlo ... ived-from-
basically a history of the I.O inc and Stg2000 and the new stg2000c. cool article. feb-2010

I.O 2010 catalog
http://www.ioinc.us/articles/doc_downlo ... talog-2010
I.O supplied some STG2000c for test at the weapon training school. this is the feedback letter.
http://www.ioinc.us/articles/doc_downlo ... the-ak47-c
i think I.O made a mistake few years ago trying to save money by using poor quality Romanian receivers, thus the bad rep...and we all know it is much harder to get rid of a bad rep than gain a good rep, but so far after i read all the articles for stg2000c as of 2010. it seems I.O corrected the QC problem and made this rifle in house now. I would get a STG2000c myself sometime down the road, i already have a Arsenal SG21 myself, but i wouldn't feel bad if i add the stg2000c to my collection.

There are two models there. The AK47XXXX varient which is just an AK47 with enough US made parts a milled receiver. Then there is the STG which was a German modified design. Many consider it to be improved.mauler88 wrote:Hi, i just want to clear up some of the "miss information" about the I.O STG 2000c. I didn't see anything in there about using the a US made mag as one of the 922r parts? If they do, you can't legally use a surplus AK mag.Inter Ordnance, located in Monroe, North Carolina, imports new Romanian semiauto AKs and converts them to the Wieger design. Mainly, the conversion consists of replacing the fore-end, gas tube, buttstock and pistol grip, but the magazine well must first be enlarged to accept standard double-stack AK magazines. IO then installs the required number of U.S. 922r regulation parts and in the end has an AK variant faithful to the Wieger StG 940 design, except it’s in 7.62x39.

If you take note that article which you quoted is from 2008. here is a quote from the SAR Feb 2010 articleInter Ordnance, located in Monroe, North Carolina, imports new Romanian semiauto AKs and converts them to the Wieger design. Mainly, the conversion consists of replacing the fore-end, gas tube, buttstock and pistol grip, but the magazine well must first be enlarged to accept standard double-stack AK magazines. I didn't see anything in there about using the a US made mag as one of the 922r parts? If they do, you can't legally use a surplus AK mag.
“We have
very good barrels being made for us. Right
now the only imported parts are the bolt,
carrier, trunnion, and receiver cover, but
everything will be US made by the end of
the year (2009). We’re outsourcing some
things to certain local machine shops but
the goal will be having everything - every
screw, pin, bolt and nut - made and assembled
in our own facility. Proper space,
proper work environment. It will go together
like a jigsaw puzzle with all the tolerances
right.”
While initial production of I.O.’s STG utilizes
a combination of imported and American
made components, work is near completion on a 100% US made gun. “We
invested heavily in tooling to make the receivers
and many other parts ourselves right
here in the USA,” Uli told us.
The firearms production and
assembly area of I.O.’s sprawling
facility in a suburban industrial
park outside Charlotte, North
Carolina. I.O. is nearing the goal
of 100% American made parts for
its firearms.
if 90% parts are U.S made and as of now should be100% us made i don't see any problem with 922r. besides if you really want to find out you can always call I.O instead of speculate.
Is not safe is gun.

With the STG-2000C you better like those handguards because I read that you can't swap them out. That's enough to keep me away from one.
