Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
it's a well writen article and a decent question.... I have a friend that lives in Manassas that also happens to be black, she had said about a year ago..."that it will be a long time till we have another black president thanks to obama"
I wish we could all focus a little less on his race...and pay more attention to the man's policies ..... for the record.... I think he's the worst thing for this county in 150 years

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
I must agree with the above statement. His being Black should have no bearing on his ability to lead this nation. It is in fact as far as I am concerned his in-ability to lead this nation along with his ability to make people live under burden's that he has imposed or helped to impose (health care) and the money that has been thrown away by him and his office. He seem's to wish to beg forgivness from everyone in the world for our country. That is bullcrap this country of our's beg's for nothing nor do we bow down to any other country or other country leaders.jaywade wrote:it's a well writen article and a decent question.... Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
The fact that he is black (which technically he is not) has been played up by the media and certain black leaders. I am a big fan of Dr King who said let a man not be judged by the color of his skin but by the content of his character...I realize thats not a quote, but its close.
I judge obama by his actions and inactions which are strongly supported by the polls...think about it...if he were elected based on race then why is he now being judged by his actions...
IMHO he and this congress are easily two of the four worst things ever to happen to our country...
1 - the federal reserve act
2 - our participation and donwright submission to the UN
3 - the current congress
4 - obama and his policies and picks for czars

I'd rather vote for Bill Cosby.

I agree ...I given Lt COl West some money even though I don't live in florida...this is the kind of men we need in our government...while his skin color is like our president...that's about all they have in common...and that's a awesome thing for Mr. West....I don't think he'd want to share anything else in common w/ our current president
Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
I asked a black guy today if he was a bigot or a marxist. He didn't know what to say. I said don't really answer it, I don't need to know, YOU need to know why you voted for Obama.

Zephyr, This has puzzled me a bit since I saw it first, probably yesterday: "The fact that he is black (which technically he is not) has been played up by the media and certain black leaders."
I don't take issue with it because if "black" and "white" are valid racial discriminators he's half and half. He''s referred to as black and looked at in that way because of his skin color. It's the "technically" that gives me pause. One of our great attributes in the U.S. is that we don't maintain any official system of racial classification, so by our standard he can't be technically black.
I've been interested in the proposition that if Germany had not had such a
system in the 1930s it would have been categorically impossible for them even to embark on what they called a Final Solution. To me, systems here for affirmative action in hiring and university admissions and other such frankly race-based actions move in that direction, which is why they're clearly unconstitutional.
I'm only carping about the word "technically," not about the content of what you wrote.

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
Personally I would like to know Obama's true ethnicity. He has been proclaimed as the first black President, But isn't he also, partialy white, and Pacific Islander. If anything he should have been proclaimed as a mixed race President, and I'm sure not the first.

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
I guess the qualifier in that is "official", because nearly every freakin' govt form I have to fill out these days asks me if I'm white, black, yellow, etc.... For it being unofficial, the government seems to be awfully interested in knowing our race. DK is right to use the word "technically" because the Democratic Party and a large number of bureaucrats care deeply about identity politics.gatorbait wrote:One of our great attributes in the U.S. is that we don't maintain any official system of racial classification, so by our standard he can't be technically black.

You're certainly correct in that, LFS. I often just leave that blank because they don't have a space for half Jew/half Southern Baptist.
When I had to pay attention to that krap for the last 10 years of my "working" life (civil service), the great, high Feds had devised the term "system of records" and then explained it to death. You could collect the information, but no-no, you mustn't write it down anywhere else.
If your name didn't appear in the system of records they didn't maintain, you could kiss the next pay grade farewell. It led me to wonder whether the topic of this thread ought to be renamed: "Can white Americans afford black Americans?"
No offense intended because this is a very high-class web site.

I take no offense with that and think you nailed an idea...only to be fair it might be "Can white Americans afford Minorities who are quickly becoming the Majority."gatorbait wrote:It led me to wonder whether the topic of this thread ought to be renamed: "Can white Americans afford black Americans?"

Note that in this context the word "afford" implies more than just money...but I digress.

I wonder when someone will introduce racism into this ? according to the democrat playbook it should have happened by now......

Nothing racist about this discussion. Its merely the way it is. You either figure out how to deal with it or dont. The label "racism" is being too loosely used these days anyway.
Here's an example:
I take great issue with obama's policies. Some would label that racist.
I also take great issue with pelosi's policies and agenda. Some would label that sexist.
I also take great issue with reid's policies and agenda. Since racist or sexist dont fit that one some would merely just start calling me names...redneck, hillbilly, etc.

'Scuze me...sounds like you're (assuming you're white) afraid of not being the majority any more. Well, consider outright discrimination of whites in the past and currently while we are still a majority. How do you think that's going to work when we the minority? There are still bigots on both sides and discrimination isnt going to go away until they all go away.CowboyT wrote: 'Scuze me...sounds like you're (assuming you're white) afraid of not being the majority any more. There would be no fear from anyone if we could all apply Dr King's reasoning...let a man not be judged by the color of his skin...

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
Then how about more of us in the firearms community actually doing this? I have seen, time and again, rants on how evil/bad the "Muslims" or the "Arabs" are. This is even going so far as to call the new Miss USA "Miss Shiite Muslim America". Some other members here (correctly) said "hey, both are hot!" But too many others, not only here but many other places, see just "an Arab/Muslim, therefore an enemy." Not exactly Dr. King's reasoning.zephyp wrote:Well, consider outright discrimination of whites in the past and currently while we are still a majority. I have seen "the majority", i. e. whites, doing all sorts of bad things to folks who don't look like them (e. g. my Dad, a black man--oh, could I tell you stories!). I've heard several call Pres. Obama "Sambo" at gun shows (I was behind the VCDL booth at the time) and elsewhere. Again, not exactly Dr. King's reasoning.
These people correctly criticize Jeremiah Wright. "Rev." Wright is a wacko nutjob. But they'll be quick to defend even the likes of David Duke and Chris Plante when they go on similar racial/religious tirades (in Plante's case, I know about this from personal experience). These backers of such bigotry will also say the most hateful of things themselves, and unfortunately, there are a whole lot of 'em doing it.
When I see more in the firearms community (e. g. at this board and many others) applying Dr. King's reasoning, then I might say, "OK, you guys have much more moral ground to stand on" to quote Dr. King like that. If folks are going to quote him, then they need to act on it, too. Fair is fair.
Zehpyp, it would be interesting to discuss this with you over a Frappucino or whatever. I imagine it would be enlightening on both ends.

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
my biggest gripe w/ our president is he does not love this country...I don't care where he was born that doesn't matter to me as the fact that a good portion of his life he didn't live here...he chose a wife who in her own words "was never proud to be a american" until her husband became president...he says sorry for this country to anyone that will listen ... his friends and mentor's don't love this country either...and to boot I didn't think he was president material .... I still don't ... now when I lived in maryland I was supporting Mr. Charles Lollar a man I due respect who I think is ready for office, Lt Col Allen West is another man (also a black man) that I would support...our president isn't terrible becasue he's black...he's terrible casue he's the leader of a country he doesn't love or even like very much...to me it's clear he's trying to change america...not for the better IMHO
