CZ 75 SP-01 tactical

Post by lmtglencoe »

Hello:

I am going to purchase a handgun soon (for home defense and range shooting) and I narrowed the choice down to either the Glock 17 or the CZ 75 SP-01 tactical.
I had the chance to shoot the Glock but I cannot find a CZ to rent anywhere.
If anyone owns one, I would love to meet you at your convenience at the range of your choice for an hour and try it. I will pay for range time and ammo.
I know the Glock is a great gun and I read some excellent reviews about the CZ (with the exception of the trigger).
What are your thoughts? I am especially interested in opinions on the CZ.

Thanks.

Did the offers on arfcom fall through?

I have one, but I'm a couple hours away from NOVA.

Oh, I misread, it was just one offer.

I mean, I'd be happy to let you try mine, but I'm not nearby.

I have owned the CZ P-01 and held the SP-01. I've shot the G17.

I'd say the G17 is a bit more practical choice. It's lighter and the trigger easier to master as opposed to DA/SA. The SP-01 is a HEAVY gun at 2.6lbs.

The G17 will be a bit less expensive, and be easier to sell if you ever wanted or needed to. Lots of parts available, after market stuff, and so on.

Just a thought: If you went with the G19, you could also carry it.

Have you considered the XD(M) at all? If you have hands on the smaller side, the XD(M) grip can get very narrow.

It's cool to have so many good choices, huh?

That whole weight issue between these 2 pistols is really the biggest factor in my opinion and is all about what you prefer.

Personally, I hate Glocks. Why? Because they're so light it feels like a toy. There's no hammer. The safety is your finger. I personally like to at all times be VERY aware of the gun. Aware it's at my side. Aware I'm holding. Aware I just clicked off safety to "Fire". I want the pulling of the trigger to be a very deliberate act and no mistake about it.

That's why I am all about the CZ. Just looked at the CZ75b yesterday at NovaArmament yesterday and I'm getting it.

The CZ is all metal. It's heavy, got an active safety and hammer. Alright the trigger location / configuration is kinda weird. Wadda-ya-gonna-do?

If you haven't got to shoot a CZ yet, I'll have mine in the next week or so. I'll shoot wit-yaz.

I would be willing to bet that the CZ "feels" better and is more of a natural pointer than the Glock, but you really couldn't go wrong with either one.

I think I'm going to back to NOVA Armament and take a look at the CZ.

My brother-in-law is a cop in Fairfax and he's all about the Glocks. He did some checking on the CZ's for me at a gun shop out there in Frederick county and he called me today to let me know that he didn't think there is a de-cocker on that pistola.

I know the other day when I was in the gun store I let the hammer back down easy with my thumb while pulling the trigger but I just did it because I don't know that gun and didn't bother to ask where the de-cocker was.

Now I'm wondering does it have one or does it have that built internal safety that some guns have where if you accidentally let the hammer slip it won't fire? Sorry, I don't know what that is called. Regardless, I definitely don't want to use the old revolver cowboy method of letting the hammer back down. That's just asking for trouble.

Anyone know what the deal is there?

Alright, my bad. Research before popping off!

Just checked the website. The 75 SP-01 has the decocker in the place the manual safety is on the standard CZ 75.

That's one of the things I love about it.

I really need to get some CZ75BDs...

I've got a 75B and love it. I'd hate to think that someone would ruin a fine pistol by putting a decocker on it.
