Judy, a guy on another boards put wood furniture on his SOCOM 16, and I must say it looks awesome!! I really like the wood with the black...
I know it's not a SOCOM II, but man, this looks great! The forums here scale the pics down a bit, but you can still see pretty good.
I know it's been done before, but I've marveled at these configurations for years on the discussion forums and figured it was time for me to convert one of my own SOCOM 16s to wood.

After browsing the BTF used stocks on Gunbroker selling for upwards of $90, I got an e-mail from Boyd's. They had brand new walnut M1A stocks for only $106! Ordered the stock liner w/screws, front ferrule, and sling swivels from Fulton Armory. The existing butt-plate was an easy transplant, but the ferrule and liner were necessary because they're molded into the fiberglass stocks. The front swivel screws included with the Fulton kit were too long and interfered with the action. So, the Dremel came out and cut them down to size. Over the weekend, I removed the screws and put in a couple of rivets. Here are some pics.

I like (good) wood stocks on guns until you go to really high end composites like the AICS, McMillian, etc. Those stocks are built to provide the best repeatability in a rifle system. Actually, if you are just shooting in competitions or plinking under nominal weather conditions, lots of lightweight benchrest guns have used wood stocks. Those high end composite stocks are better in extreme weather though as wood reacts more to the temperature changes, etc. Most synthetic stocks are designed just to be cheaper, not better, than wood IMO. Wood has a lot of good benefits too like dampening harmonics. Just my 2 cents.

It is a lot prettier in wood, that's for sure. Unfortunately, my SOCOM II has more of a "Starship Troopers" look to it - urban camo, with a big ol' quad rail. Not sure I could even swap the stock without losing the rail. I haven't even shot it yet - doctor's orders for my bum shoulder - and I haven't learned to shoot right handed yet.

We've got an M1A with wood furniture at the shop, so I get to gaze longingly at that all day instead. :hysterical:
