COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A group of college students said they are lucky
to be alive and they're thanking the quick-thinking of one of their
own. Police said a fellow student shot and killed one of two masked me
who burst into an apartment.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones met with one of the students
to talk about the incident.
"Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all," said student
Charles Bailey.
Bailey said he thought it was the end of his life and the lives of the
10 people inside his apartment for a birthday party after two masked
men with guns burst in through a patio door.
"They just came in and separated the men from the women and said,
'Give me your wallets and cell phones,'" said George Williams of the
College Park Police Department.
Bailey said the gunmen started counting bullets. "The other guy asked
how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough," said Bailey.
That's when one student grabbed a gun out of a backpack and shot at
the invader who was watching the men. The gunman ran out of the
apartment.
The student then ran to the room where the second gunman, identified
by police as 23-year-old Calvin Lavant, was holding the women.
"Apparently the guy was getting ready to rape his girlfriend. So he
told the girls to get down and he started shooting. The guy jumped out
of the window," said Bailey.
A neighbor heard the shots and heard someone running nearby.
"And I heard someone say, 'Someone help me. Call the police. Somebody
call the police,'" said a neighbor.
The neighbor said she believes it was Lavant, who was found dead near
his apartment, only one building away.
Bailey said he is just thankful one student risked his life to keep
others alive.
"I think all of us are really cognizant of the fact that we could have
all been killed," said Bailey.
One female student was shot several times during the crossfire. She is
expected to make a full recovery.
Police said they are close to making the arrest of the second suspect.

Why won't this make the national media 6 o'clock news? Same as the girl who was beheaded at tech, I bet.

I couldn't agree more. I believe that the young man deserves a medal and some National Media coverage for his bravery. He prevented harm from coming to many innocent people.Fordmechanic wrote:Why won't this make the national media 6 o'clock news?
What can we as a forum do to elevate this story and others like it into a higher media spotlight? Anything? Can it be done? VCDL is doing their part by including it int heir email newsletter...

We can organize here and take the message to our own friends and family. If the liberal biased media won't tell people the truth, then it's up to us to spread the word.allingeneral wrote: What can we as a forum do to elevate this story and others like it into a higher media spotlight? Re: Who Needs a Gun on Campus?
This may be a stupid idea... But has Wavy News 10 had any coverage of the story? I have seen a few stories they have done about things such as this. Awhile back they did a story of the man that stoped the bank robery. Maybe if someone contacted them and asked for the story to be shown?? I am going to look into this myself actualy. It realy does NEED to be told.

Re: Who Needs a Gun on Campus?
This is a question asked by the liberal minded anti gun lobbyists. Well, here in just a second I will show you who needs a gun on campus but first I want to throw in my two cents.
This should have been covered NATIONALY by the media not only in it's local town from a single station, since they won't spread the news the way it should be it is up to us as americans to distribute the truth in matters such as these. This young man is a hero and should be recognized as such. If only one person... just one was able to lawfully do what this man did in our own tragic shooting maybe more of our friends and our family members would have not lost their lives.
If you belive in you're second ammendment rights, please join the VCDL and the NRA soon. We are SO close to having these rights taken from us... Think it will never happen? Ask Austrailia....
Here is a link to the news channel site. I will post the report aswell.

This was just posted on a forum that I visit pretty often. I am going to spread this story as far as I can. I allso sent my comments to wavy 10 asking them to atleast air the story. Who know what they will do... Will post again when and if they respond.....

Re: Who Needs a Gun on Campus?
I'd love to be able to carry on Radford University campus. I always keep a 12 gauge by my bedroom door though, there was recently a shooting and multiple break ins.
Re: Who Needs a Gun on Campus?
Well, it would seem that the news channel wants nothing to do with that story... Surprised?

No surprises here, but maybe the political winds will change and common sense will become a little more common.NickFac wrote:Well, it would seem that the news channel wants nothing to do with that story... Surprised?

Re: Who Needs a Gun on Campus?
I love how the perp after being shot says "Help me! Someone call the police!". I wouldn't have pissed on him if he was on fire. He got what he deserved! The "death" penalty without a jury or 20 yrs in the pen and retrials/ petitions. I like it! Didn't cost the taxpayer a thing, bullet was .25 cents, and instant justice was served. Well, he DID have to stumble back to his apartment before he met St Peter for the first time....
