I won't buy one, but I like the finer things in life and already have enough "cheap" stuff. From what I have gathered, they either work ok or not at all. I had a friend who had a Keltec and could not get it to work for a single mag ever. Didn't matter what ammo or what parts he machined for it, it would always jam at least once per mag, usually more often. However, there are happy keltec owners who never seem to have a problem or at least won't admit it. You get what you pay for. For the range why not? If you plan on using it for defence, look elsewhere.

Edit: In the free market there is a need for low cost items like hipoints and high end like my Wilson Combat CQB. Just because it is cheap doesn't make it bad, but I'd be willing to bet that statistically there are a lot more lemon hipoints than Wilson Combats or Glocks, etc. You get what you pay for. I just don't want one as I have enough other nice stuff.

I had a C9 9mm for a while, it was fun to shoot. After I polished the feed ramp and did a little tweaking on the mag lips, it ran pretty good. If you want to know more from actual owners, check out their forum.

I really enjoyed my hi-point 9mm carbine I used to have. I put over a thousand rounds through it without one FTF. I plan on getting one of the new ones before to long. They are just too much plinking fun...

My usual gunsmith was fairly impressed with them for the price, but won't stock them for sale anymore. Almost every one he sold wound up getting a trace.

I've got a C-9, 9mm. I got it to see if they were as "bad" as "everybody" said they were. I'd never even heard of them until I started reading internet forums.

Mine has worked just fine. I put about 2,000 rounds through it and had maybe a half dozen malfunctions and four of those came in one box of "range reloads" so they were most likely ammo, not gun related. It shot as well or better than any other gun I've ever owned.

No, they're not a Colt, Glock, or even a Taurus, but the one I had worked. That's about all I could ask a $150.00 gun to do.

Hey my ugly C9 works just fine for what I was looking for and that is to shoot at the range. If you read my range report then you would see that I had a few miss-feeds on it last Thursday night but nothing that was unbearable. I will be up at Sharp Shooters this Thursday night around 1930, so if you want to shoot my Ugly gun stop by and say hi.

I think that gets to the point. For the price, you don't expect them to work 100%, so it isn't a big deal when they fail that often. Post that you had those kind of malfunctions with a Glock or SIG or Kimber or etc. and nearly everyone will tell you something is wrong and that gun needs looked at. When you buy that type of gun you expect them to work 100%. Not that they always do, but when they don't there is something wrong with the gun. When a cheap gun, like a HiPoint, fails, you chalk it up to the ammo and buy different ammo. When a Glock fails that often, you send it back to them and tell them to fix it.

It is a random event that could have been caused by the condition of the firearm. The condition of the firearm at the particular moment in time can account for a particular box of ammo jamming. E.g. carbon build-up on the extractor not allowing it to grab the rim of the brass. E.g. a string of shots that got the gun hot and caused the malfunction. Before I'd grant you that it was the ammo I'd like to know more.

Where you shooting particularly poor grade of ammo? Although I have shot some of the cheapest stuff around out of good guns and they haven't jammed on it.

Where you shooting that box which had four jams, changed nothing and then shoot other boxes of the same stuff immediately after that box?

What kind of shooting where you doing? Fast? Do you usually shoot this way?

i bought a 45acp hi point at a gun show new for 170. this thing is ugly and HEAVY but its AWESOMEto shoot. never had any problems with it, accurate, even during break in it was a blast to shoot. because the slide is so heavy, recoil is actually less then what my keltec p11 is. i have NO problem saying i own a hi point, but dont plan on using it as a ccw, i dont think they make a belt strong enoughto support the weight of this thing. it is a good nightstand gun though.

I've been tracking users' comments on Hi-Point (guns amd company) for more than 2 years. I became interested in getting a cheap carbine. There's tons of entries in the 'net, and without having counted I can say with confidence that the positives far outweigh the negative. All sorts of different reasons, of course, but it holds true for long guns and handguns. A good number of the positives, though, mention reservations when it comes to absolute, 100% certainty that the first trigger pull will send a projectile out the front end, so they worry about H-P as a carry piece. Oh, they're about unanimously positive about the company's living up to its warranty promises.

I haven't bought one because my requirement changed, but I'm still considering a carbines for when the Stasi come after my meager arsenal.

Best 25-yard group I've fired with a .45 was with a Hi-Point. I've fired a couple 9mm and one .45. Not bad shooters. I'm not impressed by the overall quality, but they are $150 guns.

So far, I've resisted the temptation to buy one, but the few folks I know who have them report they do the feed, fire, eject thing without problem. I've seen, and fired, more than one Kimber that couldn't make that claim.

Since a pistol caliber carbine won't do anything more than make 'em mad, you should probably come up with another reason for getting it.

I find "Because it's cool and I want it" to work well, but I don't have a wife or anything like that to kowtow to.

Diomed, Reasons for a pistol calber include: Almost 100% disabled; have been given not more than 6 more months; no unaided mobility; can lift the carbine, which no longer applies with the M1; can hold it steadier than I can any handgun; will have to wait until they're so close to me that the little bullet will attract their attention; I'll feel that I've fulfilled my obligation and complete my Tour of Duty--which started in 1946--if I can relieve the rest of you of dealing with just one of the b*****ds I'll be satisfied.

Can't think of any other reasons off the top of my head.
