Norfolk Scope
Norfolk Scope
I have a virginia CHP and was wondering if anyone has any experience with carrying in the Norfolk Scope? I can't find anything on their website saying that you can't. I'm thinking of going to a Norfolk Admirals hockey game and want to know ahead of time if anyone has been there and would know. I didn't have a CHP permit the last time I went so didn't notice but you have to park in the hood most of the time because their parking garage fills up and walk several blocks and I don't want to get there with ticket in hand to find out I have to walk back to the jeep to lock it up. And, frankly I would rather leave it at home than leave it locked in my vehicle in the hood.
Similarly I recently attended an event at the Hampton Coliseum, carrying concealed, and couldn't find anything prior to the event from them on their website or ticket stubs saying that you couldn't carry there, however when I got to the door they were wanding people much to my surprise and disdain. There were no posts on the door either, so I'm not sure what their policy is officially.

Re: Norfolk Scope
Being that the City of Norfolk owns this venue, state preemption would apply here. I've only seen security searching bags, purses and backpacks, so you should be OK.

I absolutely agree with you OakRidgeStars. It's been a long time when I went in that place. I hope JKJeremy can find what he is looking for.OakRidgeStars wrote:Being that the City of Norfolk owns this venue, state preemption would apply here. Yes but dont try and force the issue at the venue in question. Politely leave and then drop the boom on em via legal recourse...t33j wrote:PrEeEmPtIoN

Re: Norfolk Scope
I was at Scope today (05.02.10) for the Tattoo and asked a Deputy Sherriff who was working security if there was a regulation against carrying a weapon with a current Concealed Carry Permit at Scope. He said that he knew of no restrictions. He did not ask if I had a permit or was carrying.
There were no metal detectors or wands. All bags and purses were inspected. I assume they are looking for alcohol or food since they want to sell you the high priced stuff inside.
Carry on.

Re: Norfolk Scope
@Barney, if the Scope is a public venue then the deputy could only give one answer -- no its not restricted due to pre-emption...otherwise if its privately owned then he cannot answer...only the owners could do that...

Re: Norfolk Scope
Sorry i never posted back on this but apparently there is no issue with it...there are no signs posted...nothing on their website mentions anything and my experience was similar to others in that they were looking in purses and bags for some reason but pretty weak security search for whatever it is they are looking for...i didn't carry that night cuz i didn't feel like dealing with any potential issues, but will carry concealed in future visits to the scope....
Re: Norfolk Scope
I have the same question. Was planning on attending a hockey game tonight. Has anyone had any experience carrying in the Norfolk Scope for a hockey game since this was posted nearly a year ago?

I've CC'd at an Admirals game before, but haven't OC'd. But I don't remember seeing any signs posted.
Re: Norfolk Scope
I CC'd at the Scope tonight with no issues. There was nothing posted on their web site. There were no signs, pat downs or wanding. I saved enough money for a couple boxes of bullets by not drinking too!
