Ammo Availability in NoVA

Post by chuck56 »

Afternoon folks,
I'm trying to find a store that carries 9mm JHP ammo in either 50 round or 100 round boxes. Anyone seen a decent supplier? Walmart and Dick's are iffy. Thanks!

Try NOVA Arms in Herndon. If they don't have it - they will try & get it.

I was at NOVA armament just a few days ago, and all they had was 147grain hollowpoints in 9mm. I think it was the Federal hyrdoshock brand. From what I have read about the 147grain being subsonic and having some issues with expansion. I am hesitant to actually use that size. I plan on sticking to the 115 and 124 grain bullets. I am in the same position as you finding hollowpoint ammo for my 9mm and I have resigned myself to purchase it online. Dicks did have some but it was priced over 1.50 per round. When I can purchase the same stuff for less than 1.00 per round off places like ammunition-to-go and cabelas and midwayusa I am just planning on buying online from now on, unless one of the local stores has a sale or something. Good luck and if you find some locally at a decent price let us know, just make sure to get some yourself before we all descend and buy it up. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I bought a box of 100 Remington JHP 9mm for about $24, but for the life of me I cannot remember where. I guess I need a re-loading for my brain...

Both Sterling and Leesburg WM have 9mm including the JHP as of Saturday. Both were well stocked with 9mm, 40 and some 38 and a few .45acp. No 380 to be found. Even the Dicks at Dulles Mall was pretty well stocked as well.

Where is the ammo at Dicks? All I saw was shotgun ammo - maybe I was on the wrong aisle and gave up too easily.

Dicks has its handgun ammo behind the counter underneath its rifles. And if you are looking for rifle ammo, stand in front of the shotgun ammo, and look left. This all assumes that you are in the Dicks at Sterling located in the Dulles Town Center Mall. I cannot speak for other locations. You can also ask an associate that works there. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
