I also noticed they used a .22. I wonder what would happen if they used a .50AE Desert Eagle, or a .500 Magnum or hell, even AR15.

Simple web camera and laser setup. Software to detect that isn't hard either. It looks like a simple 2D "bitmap like" overlay. All in all, very simple.
