Glock 22 question

Post by DavidG »

Has anyone changed out the 40 cal. barrel tube for a 357 Sig tube on a Glock 22 ? Are there any concerns safety wise? I would like to do this with mine and have the option of being able to shoot both calibers.

My understanding is that all you need to do is swap the barrel tubes and the mags you have will work for eighter caliber. The barrel tubes are around $100.00 I also have a 2nd. gen. 22

Correction on the model22. Mine is a third generation.and I think for the model 22 you will need the barrel tube for a model 31 which I think is the full size 357 Sig , I think that the only differance in a gen. 2 & a gen. 3 is the finger grooves and thumb groove which the gen. 2 dosen't have. The gen. 3 also has the addition of the slide rail.

You can think of .357SIG as a .40SW necked down to a .355 (9mm) bullet. Practically this won't work as the .40SW brass isn't long enough. I.e. the neck would be to short if you tried. I haven't done it, but the barrel is supposed to be all you need. I would be curious if the recoil spring needed changed. Just get the barrel length that matches your gun.

G31 - full sized
G32 - compact
G33 - subcompact

I love my .357SIGs. Recoil is snappy, but nothing you can't handle with a little practice. No safety concerns as long as your .357SIG barrel is good. Manufacturers who make both .357SIG and .40SW generally made sure you could swap barrels just fine. I thought that I would get the .40SW barrels for my .357SIGs, but after shooting the .357SIG I never bothered. I like it that much.

Your profile doesn't say where you are at, but I'm sure someone would let you shoot theirs at a meet and greet if you asked.

GUnderwood,
Thanks for the reply and the info. I am in Augusta Co. and I was thinking about going to the s&g at Sgt. Bill's in June. so I might get to try one out then if I haven't made the swap before then.Is there a particular barrel manufacture you would recommend?

It should also be noted that the mags for a .40 will also feed a .357 without a problem, they exchange very nicely.

I'll make sure to bring my G32 and G33. I don't know much about which brand is best as I never bothered to convert mine to 40SW or wore a barrel out. Go to one of the many Glock forums and they should be able to tell you what brands are good. Alternatively, just go to their stores:

Could always get a factory Glock barrel too.

Supposedly the frame rails are marginally larger and imbedded deeper on the 31, 32, and 33. I don't know as I don't have a 22, 23, or 27 to check it against. I do have a 32 with an extra 23 barrel and it works fine even with the 32 recoil spring.
