Taurus vs springfield on the 1911

Post by 06bolton5pt3 »

Im looking at a Taurus PT1911 and a Springfield GI as well as a Milspec. I think i like the Taurus better though. What is your opinions between these 3 mentioned? the Taurus worthy?

Between the two Springfields, unless price is your MAIN FACTOR or you're looking for a WWII reproduction style pistol, go with the Mil Spec. If anything for the MUCH better sights and the polished ramp and throated barrel.

Between the Mil Spec and the Taurus it's really a toss up. Both are made in Brazil, SA tends to have a better reputation than Taurus but both are good. Quality is about the same with maybe the edge going to SA as well. Both are mainly entry-level pistols. The difference between the pistols is mainly in their style and features:

Taurus
Round Hammer
Beavertail Grip Safety w/ Speed Bump
Ambidextrous Safety
Longer reach trigger
Heine sights
Full Length Guide Rod
Flat Mainspring Housing

Springfield Armory
Spur Hammer
Standard Beavertail Grip Safety
Normal safety
shorter 1911A1 trigger
3-Dot sights
standard 1911A1 guide rod
arched mainspring housing

I myself like the more M1911A1-ness of the Mil Spec but most people dig the custom 1911 features of the Taurus. Pick whichever one strikes your fancy. Either will serve you well.

That's my 2 cents but I'm no expert. Good luck. :packin:

One thing you may want to keep in mind is customer service in case there is a problem. Taurus sucks in that department. I have heard many stories of guns sent in under warrenty being kept for up to a year, some sent back not repaired. The list goes on and one.

I would get the Springfield mil spec. The replica is cool if that is what you want. I will probably pick one up one day, but it will be as a cool piece, not practical. RocKor already gave you the technical run down.

Ive seen too many taurus guns come out of the box from the factory that where FUBAR! Like... how the hell did that pass inspection FUBAR? Or... will I get hurt if I shoot this FUBAR?

SA has been around for 200yrs (I kid, I kid!) and make s a MUCH better product. You get what you pay for!

Taurus does have some Quality Control issues and quite a few people have had problems with with their customer service but I find it's the exception and not the rule. While I've seen many people happy with Taurus and sing songs about good customer service encounters, do keep in mind bad reputations do tend to come from somewhere.

I honestly believe you will be happy with either pistol (inspect both before buying!), it's just a matter of preference on style.
