How to Reload Ammo Classes?

Post by REL1203 »

I am interested in learning how to reload ammo (specifically 5.56, .308, and .45), but dont have the slightest clue how to do it, just something I have never been exposed to in my life so far, but damn .308 is expensive, and my semi-auto SASS goes through them quickly.... So, does anyone know of any places that has a Intro to Reloading ammo type class?

I live in the Northern VA area if that helps.

Thanks

I know that the NRA has classes, but I am not sure if there are any listed for this area. You could check their website under training.

I purchased a Lee reloader from Cabelas. I have dies for a couple handgun calibers, and I have reloaded about 1 box of bullets so far. It can be a little tricky until you get the hang of it!

I found that other people that reload are great at helping new reloader out with info. I met a guy at the gun show, and he talked to us about reloading for several minutes while we waited to get our background checks cleared.

Good idea, but the next class being offered isnt until mid August.... Seems a long way away time wise, but the class is in my area at Centreville IWLA...

Anyone know of any other courses?

Who's giving the class, you or me ? Good I was hoping it was you  Remind me tomorrow to give you my press, scales, trickler and dispenser so you can set them up in the garage. I can even bring my brand spanking new sierra manual on the 5th. Plus plenty of .223 brass, bullets, powder and primers for you to use to demonstrate. :clapping:

+1 SgtBill

and in the meantime get you a couple of good reloading manuals and start reading. Every cartridge has its intricacies, and every component, and every combination of components is a factor in how your reloads turn out.

I jumped in with both feet in the fall of 08, expecting to start reloading 22 Hornet, .223, 30-06, .38SPL, and .45ACP. A year and a piece has gone by, and I'm still fooling with the just the .45 - and loving every minute of it. I know I've got the equipment and components to feed all my favs if the SHTF, but I know now it will take some time to craft and test the kind of loads I would like to have.

Just my 2¢, for what its worth...

Well I will most likely be tied up with shooting lessons and Henry will be cooking chicken so that we can eat, hell Glen that leaves you maybe for reloading classes if you want to take it on. You would schedule the time and length and the caliber of ammo that would be loaded with help if time permits from most likely me and Henry. What do you think ?

Okay Glen I'll try a bribe then. I'm working on getting a 5 gallon bucket or two of wheel weights. If my source comes through they are yours. That is if you do the class. :clapping:

I also need some reloading classes. Does anyone load for 280AI ? My best friend got me to build one last year. But he died this past fall and never got around to teaching me to reload. Any help would be appriciated.

Weatherby Mark V Accumark in 280 Ackley Improved.

.280AI ( Ackley Improved) Nothing more than a .280 with the shoulder changed. There are AI's in alot of rifle calibers, just makes the round move couple hundred feet per second more than factory. Rechamber the rifle, fire a factory round through it and run the brass through an AI sizing die and you have it. Alot of trouble for so little gain in my opinion.

Ok we are talking the same as fire forming brass from a 30-06 to 270. Run the 06 brass through a 270 sizeing die and presto chango you have a .270 cartridge case with a 30-06 head stamp to confuse the hell out of most people without calipers.
