That would be Warwick and Denbigh.... On Jefferson and Denbigh is a walgreens, 7-11, and the Azteca restaurant that burnt down. But yes, I am sure you could get a pistol, maybe even an ak or 2 down in that area.
Back to OP:
Yes, as Graybeard pointed out, A&P Arms on Mercury is good. Also Superior Pawn and Gun on Mercury down by Kmart. Both in Hampton.
In Newport News, I have only been to The Marksman on Industrial Park Dr. They didn't have that much though for such a big place. They have a decent size range though.

Re: Newport News area gunshops?
yeah, you're correct. about the store location. The Marksman is way over priced on everything they sell. WAY OVER PRICED. If you like smoke filled short distance ranges, they have probably 15 lanes? something like that. I'm guessing, maybe 25 to 30 yards, under 50 though. Its gone down hill over the last few years.....last time I was there I was shooting next to two young military persons....it was nice, then 5 or 6 gangstas' came in, and the three of us looked at each other like "oh boy, they'll let anyone in here, " and we left... I prefer outdoor ranges though.Unkn0wN wrote:GS78 wrote: yep. the alley behind the Big Lots store at Jefferson and denbeigh.blvd, after 9pm or dark whichever comes first......

Re: Newport News area gunshops?
Oh, didn't even know that. I went up there on a Sunday, it was around when they opened. They didn't have a very big selection on handguns and I didn't really look at prices. I was there mainly scouting the place out. There was only one guy on the range right then and he looked military from the haircut. I have only been there that one time, but thought I would throw it out there since the OP asked for Newport News area.GS78 wrote: yeah, you're correct. about the store location. I know what you mean by the gangsta's coming out.... Every time I go into Superior to shoot, the lanes are filled with the gansta wanna be types. I usually leave. But this past friday, I went up there during lunch to check it out. The range was empty, so I jumped on and shot up my 50 rounds and left. Not much time during lunch, but at least I got to shoot. It's good for me, because I can come out the back gate at langley, stop by the house and grab my gear, then continue on to Superior. It takes me about 15 minutes including the stop by the house.
And sorry, it was Grayghost that pointed out A&P, not Graybeard. Sorry.

Re: Newport News area gunshops?
I'll check them out. I don't know if or when it's open, but there is a pistol range on Ft. Eustis. I hope its a good one.
I think there's a guy in downtown Newport News on the corner of Chestnut and MLK way that deals in RPG's and crack....

A&P is a good shop. There is Wilcox Bait and Tackle on Jefferson. If you dont mind a short drive there is Old Dominion Guns out on 17 in Carrollton.
Re: Newport News area gunshops?
Carrollton? if you are willing to drive that far, go the other way to gloucester, near the wendys on 17 just over the bridge to Hunters Heaven(or hunters haven) if you are going north on 17 its about 3 or 4 miles from the bridge. The owner is Paul, good deals on guns, he even has some trade-ins, and consignment weapons. Its an old time place, guys sittin around chewin the fat........ they also do some archery, repairs etc.... they usually have ammo.... its a good gun shop.devilfish wrote:A&P is a good shop. I'm of the mindset that an hours drive is worth it when your spending a couple hundred bucks. So Gloucester or Richmond isn't out of the question.
Re: Newport News area gunshops?
I don't blame ya, check out that one in gloucester, they have some good deals... I know another guy who sells out of his house in Mathews, depends on what you're looking for.macdiesel wrote:I'm of the mindset that an hours drive is worth it when your spending a couple hundred bucks.
