Culpeper Meet and Greet-3/27/10
I am planning a meet and greet event on Saturday, March 27th in Culpeper.
I have an abandoned farm in Culpeper that we can use for a shooting range. Since the entrance to the property is very hard to find I would like to meet up at the Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant in Culpeper at 11:30 for lunch. If you want to come but don't want to eat lunch let's meet in the parking lot of Five Guys at 12:00. We can caravan to the farm from there. It is about 10 minutes away on RT 29. I will give out my cell so if anyone gets separated from the group you can call me and I can get you to the entrance.
Depending on what people want to shoot there are several areas we can use so let me know what the group wants and I will try to plan accordingly. I have two target stands and will try to get one more but if anyone else has one please bring it. There is a Wall Mart 2 minutes away from Five Guys so if you need targets or ammo you can get them before we meet up. The farm is about 1 hour away from the DC/ northern VA area and about 1 hour north of Charlottesville.
The address to Five Guys is 15191 Montanus Drive, Culpeper, VA.
Directions:
Coming from DC/ Northern VA you will take 66W to Rt 29 south. Take 29 South about 33 miles(not exact mileage) then turn right on RT 666(Braggs Corner Rd) go about 1 mile and take a left on Montannus Dr. It's the first left after you cross the railroad tracks. There is a lumber yard on the right side of the road to use a landmark. Follow Montannus and you will come to a light which is Rt 29 business. Go through the light and you can see Five Guys on the right. Take the first right into the shopping center parking lot and Five Guys is on the right side of the parking area. It fronts on Rt 29 Business.
From Charlottesville you take 29 North about 43 miles(not exact mileage) and make a left on Braggs Corner Rd(RT666). Go about 1 mile to a left turn on Montannus Dr. It's the first left after you cross the railroad tracks. The turn is immediately after the RR tracks across from the lumber yard. Follow Montannus to the light at Rt 29 business and go through the light. Take the first right into the shopping center parking lot and Five Guys is on the right straight ahead. The restaurant fronts on 29 business.
I will be by the front of Five Guys on the steps at 11:30. I am 6'3", 300 lbs with brown hair and a brown goatee. I will have my 15 year old son with me and will be wearing a US Army veteran hat. The roads at the farm are gravel to a certain point and then they are mud/dirt. We can park the cars and share rides with those that have 4X4 trucks. Anyone that wants to bring children is welcome as long as strict firearms safety is observed. My son,age 15 and his buddy also 15 will be coming. My daughter age 11 might be with me as well. There are areas where we can shoot unusual targets ie Tv's, computer monitors, whatever you want to shoot if anyone wants to do so. There is also an area where we can shoot long distance but we might need to trim some brush to get a clear shooting lane. I have never had more than 5 people out to shoot before so if someone has experience safely setting up the range for a bigger group I would really appreciate the help. Any weapons that are legal are welcome. If someone has a clay pigeon thrower and wants to shoot some skeet we can do that. I don't have much equipment but I do have a good piece of property that we can use. Please use this thread to sign up and let me know how many you are bringing.
If you have questions you can post them here or PM me. I look forward to meeting some fellow VGOF members and burning some ammo.

Here's a google map to Five Guys
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=151 ... 054443&z=9
I hope to be there and will bring several pistols, a couple of .22 rifles and maybe a 12Ga Mossberg. I'm going to look in the garage this weekend for something fun to shoot at

Thanks for the map Rick, I am not really computer savvy. Watermelons, cantaloupes and coconuts can be fun to blast I had a computer monitor that used to freeze up all the time and drive me crazy, a couple of mags from the AR15 fixed it right up.

I'll be there. Perhaps with Daughter in tow, she's still undecided. I'll brig the SIG, AR, SKS & a caouple of shot guns that haven't been worked in a while. I will need a ride once we get off civilized roads.
I'll see what I can dig up for targets.

My wife and daughter(age 10) are coming as well. We decided to make a family day out of it. I am bringing my AR15, Armalite AR180, Glock model 30 .45, Ruger P89 9mm, Taurus .327 Federal Magnum, Mossberg 500 12 Gauge, Savage .17 HMR, a 30.06 and a BSA Lee Enfield .303 that is very fun to shoot. I have got some milsurp rifles but I need to have a gunsmith check them out to see if they are safe to shoot. I will bring a cooler with water and soda's as well. I know we are all adults but I would prefer no beer or booze, thanks.

Hey John,
Check your PMs, and you know I'll be there! And probably with at least +1, perhaps more.

Let your wife know that my wife is coming and thegearguy is bringing his girlfriend. My 10 year old daughter is also coming so there will be other women there. I will have my Savage 17 HMR which is great for kids and people new to shooting as it has almost no recoil. My hope is that this is a fun shoot for all age and experience levels.

Change in plans, I was unable to show for this untill my wife informed me that she was going to go to work at the Hospital that day so I am now free and I will be there. I am just going to bring my old S&W 686 and some handloads. John and DK mI will see you there.

Likewise, I can bring my pair of .22LR's pistol/rifle if anyone is interested. Personally, I think how many weapons I bring will boil down to how many weapons I want to clean afterwards.firstcavapache64 wrote:Let your wife know that my wife is coming and thegearguy is bringing his girlfriend. Not trying to be a smart a$$ - but - who is bringing the first aid kit? Also - would a folding table be of any help/use?

I was planning on bringing at very least a blow-out kit. Thought about tossing the folding camp chairs in too.KaosDad wrote:Not trying to be a smart a$$ - but - who is bringing the first aid kit? Also - would a folding table be of any help/use?

Hey everyone, I would like to try to come out and attend as well. If I make it, I would be bringing my 11 year old son with me. He previously attended the Meet and Greet at the range in Lorton/Springfield. Most likely I would bring a few handguns with me.

I will have a basic first aid kit, cooler with soda and water and I am bringing some camp chairs. A folding table would be great to set ammo, mags, targets and drinks on. I am trying to come up with some ideas for targets that would be fun for the younger shooters. I have a bunch of cans and I am going to pick up some balloons to shoot.

Rubber ducks are fun with the .22LR's, especially if you have some small puddles on the range.
I think I have some I could bring.

Is there water on the farm? ie creek or pond that you could dip with a bucket?

Re: Culpeper Meet and Greet-3/27/10
There is a lake and a small pond you could get water from but no running potable water. Thanks Rick, a table and some chairs would be great. I don't mind if people have a cold beer or two while they are shooting but since we are mostly new to each other and there will be kids around I just thought it would be best to stick to soda and water.
