Ruger 10/22 at Dicks

Post by allingeneral »

I almost picked up a new synthetic stock, stainless barrel Ruger 10/22 this evening. They wanted $249 for it. I asked him if they ever have specials on them and he said to check back around thanksgiving for a $30-$50 discount. I told him I'd see him at Thanksgiving! :)

We have one 10/22 here but it doesn't belong to me; I just get use privileges. Once I get this whole employment thing ironed out I plan to buy one for myself and hopefully upgrade it a little bit; they're awesome guns and have many different uses.

10/22's are fun little rifles. I've got five of them. I never cared much for the plastic stock/stainless one, but I'm pretty much a blue steel/wood guy myself. Having said that, the only SS guns I do have are Ruger 10/22's. A Wally-World Special, and a SS Carbine with a green laminate stock (another WWS now that I think of it, just from a few years back).

10/22's aren't target rifles. They plinking/hunting guns and they do that job quite well. There are a million things you CAN do to them, but contrary to what you'll read on the "net" you don't HAVE to.

Unlike a lot of people I do like the new matte finish Ruger is putting on their guns now. Looks to be a lot easier to take care of, although that doesn't matter too much with stainless.

I saw that 10/22 at Dick's also. I almost bought the one with the wood stock & blue barrel for $199 but I wanted to check the price elsewhere, Dick's is the lowest so far. I wanted to replace my Marlin Model 60 but I'm gonna keep trying with it.

I went to Fairfax Dick's after visiting my friend to get the 10/22 and
the sales price was $270. That the sale had ended. :? But instead
saw a Remington 597 with everything that I would want on it already.
Now really just considering getting the Remington. Oh and he didn't
he also said that might have a sale but maybe in the $10-$30 range.

as far as i know at least for about the past year and a half at the southpoint dicks the wood and blued 10/22 is 199.99 and occasionaly comicaly actually 199.98. and the stainless is always 249.99 never seen it drop to the amazing low value of 249.98, after being with dicks for 2 years i still never understand that part that they think that because they put sale on it and drop it a penny it will move quicker, but oh well. i always make it a habit to go to gander and compare prices and i havent seen them beat the southpoint store(my store) yet. and form what i understand walmart is going to stop carrying ruger, something to do with ruger was raiseing the prices and walmart wasnt going to buy them anymore i guess because at what they sell em they wouldnt make anything or something like that.

I have a stainless barrell and a snyth stock left over from my 10/22 build...if anyone is interested, make an offer...

and a side note for any thinking of tricking one out...Cajunbass is SO correct, when he stated that these thing shoot pretty darn wel right out of the box, and they require no upgrades to be a good 50 to 75 yard plinker, small varmit rifle...and then i will add to that, building out a 10/22 has been one of the funnest firearm conversions/build outs that i have attempted thus far...and they make SO many add ons... tri-mags for the WIN!
plink on!

hmm..maybe I could buy the on-sale walnut stock model and upgrade to the synthetic/stainless for a good price. The question is.. "What's a good price for your "Leftovers"?" :)

I've been looking at building a competition grade 10/22 from scratch....somewhat expensive but still cheaper than some competition pistols and I can actually own a 10/22. I think the one I have priced out came out to around $865 w/o all the shipping costs and such. I'm basing that off of buying a stock 10/22 from Dick's or some other place to save the money from an FFL transfer.

What parts for the Ruger 'ya looking at? I've recently upgraded mine with a GM 18" Bull Barrel along with a Predator T-Rex stock (with a Tuffer Buffer). Still breaking the barrel in as well as the trigger/bolt before tweaking those. I've just been using bulk ammo through it but its holding groups well under 1/2" at 50yards off a wobbly rest. Best group with the wallyworld bulk was a nice 3-shot cloverleaf. I've got a few boxes of various match/target grade ammo that I plan on testing some weekend when time/weather permits. You on RFC as well?

I also just started another build/conversion for a .17Mach2 with lighter components. Still hunting for a used rifle to harvest the action from; so far no luck but need to hit the pawn shops!

Cheers

So far I have no where near as much capital as I need to start the build but when I do get enough I'll be looking at a Fast Twist subsonic fluted barrel from Eabco.com as well as a Bell & Carlson Anschutz Style Thumbhole Stock, as well as tweaking the internals. Especially that annoying little bolt lock......I may change that out on my grandfathers before I even build mine just because it so darned annoying. If you want a full parts list just lemme know, I can post that up in a different thread later, but like I said before unless someone wants to send me some parts or some money as a nice early christmas present then it'll be a while on that build. As for RFC, I'm not currently on there but I will be signing up sometime soon.

im about to convert my stock 10/22 over to a .17 hm2 i traded and got the conversion kit from a guy, i traded him a ruger single six 22 wmr, and a lorcin 22lr. its made by magnum research, i got the barrel and the bolt to go with it, and the guy was kind enough to throw in a box of shells, and a wood stock that he worked on and got modified so the .17hm2 bull barrel would fit on it and be free floating, now i just have to put it all together and go out and shoot it, but i was very happy with the deal that got me the barrel and as far as weight the barrel is super light. i might change out the stock to a synthetic or varmit one later down the road but figured id give the one he gave me and fixed up, first. ill let yall know how it all turns out and patterns after i get back in town.
i just got married today (sat. oct 10th, and now i get to go on my honeymoon so ill be gone all this week. sadly i will miss getting to test fire the gun for a full week as well as miss a week of hunting  )

Congratulations and many many happy years together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, have to share this one joke with you --- :hysterical:

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?' The girl said, 'NO!' and the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and had a totally awesome Gun collection, and huge repository of ammo, and went fishing and hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and scotch and smoked cigars and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and passed gas whenever he wanted.

Just got home from picking up a 10/22 at Dick's for $199 which is cheaper than anyplace I've seen one, new or used. Made far too many calls to gun and pawn shops looking for used ones as well as looking through online ads. Most folks that have 10/22s seem to keep 'em (which is good).

I'm resisting breaking it down until I can get to over SEG in Ashburn to fire it first to make sure eveything works okay. Then I'll have a new RT Quantum .17M2 barrel/handle and sit in a nice new stock with the Mueler APV scope when it arrives....

When you get back from the honeymoon give me a hollar - we'll have to try to get a bunch of rimfire shooters together for some fun :machinegun:

Cheers
