Repeal of Va. 'one gun a month' law not dead yet
March 7, 2010 - 1:59pm

RICHMOND, Va. - Gun control advocates thought they had defeated an attempt to repeal Virginia's "one gun a month" law. But there will be one more attempt this week to do away with it. Democrats shipped off the proposed repeal to a Senate subcommittee which killed it along with several other gun bills March 4.

Prince William Delegate Scott Lingamfelter says they'll make one last attempt to revive the repeal in another committee Monday.

"The level to which we are willing in the House to trust the decisions of law abiding citizens, it seems to me that the Senate has a somewhat contrary view."

If that does not happen, Lingamfelter predicts lawmakers will face some political blowback.

"People who oppose the second amendment and don't trust the people and the better judgment of law abiding citizens, will pay a political price I do think that."

The "one gun a month" law has been on the books for 17 years.

There were 21 guns bills introduced in Va. this year.

Hank Silverberg contributed to this report.

It is going to be difficult to erase something that has been on the books that long, it has roots.....

Lingamfelter gets it. This about trusting the citizens and the law abiding people of Virginia. He is point is dead on, and he is one of the good guys.

Republicans fail to revive pro-gun bills in Va. committee

RICHMOND

Republicans have lost an attempt to revive pro-gun bills that failed last week in a special subcommittee set up to shoot down the proposals.

Sen. Mark Obenshain of Harrisonburg tried Monday to overrule Senate Courts Justice Committee Chairman Henry Marsh's decision not to allow the full committee to take up 10 bills expanding gun rights. The full committee often passes pro-gun bills.

Marsh, aided by fellow Democrats in a testy exchange, demanded that only the chair decides which bills to bring before the committee. He refused to allow hearings on bills that would have shielded the public from records concerning concealed handgun permits and exempted from federal law any gun manufactured and sold in Virginia.

Marsh is from Richmond--I suspect there are More than enough of his kind there to prevent removing him by the election process.
