How many people have you taught to shoot?

Post by skt239 »

It's really important that we pass our sport down to the next generation so they can do the same. It's also important to make sure they have a broad understanding of their rights, how they got them and what they have to do to defend them. So who have you taught to shoot? I don't mean in terms of training someone but rather people you have taken out who have never shot a gun before. I can think of 14 who I have taken to the range who had never shot before that. How bout you all?

I have taken 6 or 7 at one time to a friends 450 acres in Charles City, but this is my most important one, my 10 yr old son. Can't seem to get my liberal wife to go for some reason..here are some links to videos.

Only ones I've trained have been my sons, who are now 19 and 15. My youngest is a fine shot. With his Savage 22 he can get about 2-3" grouping at 150' shooting from a bench, using bulk ammo. My oldest does really well with revolvers, and is a good shot too. My wife wants nothing to do with guns. It will be a cold day in **** before I will ever get a firearm in her hand. Oh well, just means more ammo for me.

You don't think she might notice the 13 battle rifles and 2 ammo boxes weighing the trunk down? Now , granted, she IS a blonde.....

Ah, well you just need a new strategy! Have friends meet you at the range with all the hardware...tell her you're taking her out for a nice time and it's a surprise! :)

Nice picture. You guys look happy.

re: Liberal wife

It could be worse... my wife is a Dallas fan (I'm a Redskin fan).

I have introduced probably 5 or 6 people, of which two (my wife and daughter) can probably outshoot me with handguns. I still shoot better on the long guns, probably because I sight them in.

I thought I was the only one in that boat!! I'm born and raised in Texas, my wife native to the area. She and my youngest son are staunch 'Skin fans, I'm a die-hard 'Boys fan, and my old son does care. Needless to say, football season is usually a lot of fun around our house.

Iv'e taught a dozen or so to shoot but my oldest daughter is deadly with my 6mm. I think she was about 12 when I set up a deer target at around 75 yards and told her to aim just behind the shoulder. Three shots that you could cover with a dime.

I have taught a number of people to hunt and shoot, I can't really say how many, I'd have to think about that for a bit.

I can say that I like to start off with a 22 and then work up from there. It gives you some satisfaction to see a person make progress.
