Why so many guns?

Post by KaosDad »

Yes - that is the most trollsome title I could think of.

This is a question for those of you that own mutiple hand guns. My question is....why?

And I have a real reason for asking. We were just told that we DID make bonus numbers this year (of course The Man made up some BS story about sales being "flat" so we don't get FULL bonus - but HEY! It's better than a stick in the eye!). So I am considering another purchase. When YOU have the disposable $$ to get another handgun (or rifle) what do you look for? (assume this is net new - not a replacement)

A different caliber?
A different frame size?
" :lovegunporn: WOW! That looks COOL!!!!"
A bigger "KABOOM?"

I have a hankering to get a .357 revolver - I had one before, and loved it. However, the Kimber 1911 Crimson Carry compact on the back cover of this month's NRA Magazine looks sweet. So, edumacate me!

My "collection" is rather modest, and my purchases to date have been to meet a need or function. To me, it depends mostly if I have a missing niche or functional purpose. I rarely buy cause something is cool or neat, though if I run across a good buy on a Sig I have been known to buy it regardless.

I recently picked up an LCP because I wanted something I could easily CC, and this fit what I was looking for. My future purchases are probably going to be more on the "cause I want it" side, as most all of my "functional requirements" have been met by at least one or more.

D.) All of the above

As well as: something the wife can handle,
something to pass on to the kids,
differing needs for different locations and situations...
even for different times of the year.

For me it's a matter of wanting the right tool for the job. CCW, target shooting, hunting, sharing with the wife and kids all are best handled by a different caliber or style. I know you can get one pistol that could do pretty well in most cases but when it comes to guns with me pretty good isn't good enough.

Yep.

Caliber. Ammo availability. Target type.

All play a role.

One thing that I practice and did not see already posted is "Right price at the Right time" approach. I am always on the lookout for a deal. If I see something like a Kel Tec .32 cal for $175.00 or Winchester 30/30 lever action for $200, I usually try to scape up the money and buy it, even if I did not need it at that time. Mostly because I passed a few of these up in my life and I am still kicking myself in the rear end for allowing them to slip away from me.

When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

You need a Monday gun, another for a Tuesday gun, Wednesday gun selection is very important as it's hump day and on and on and on.

Good Question.
Why do we have many different types of shoes? Each one has a specific reason that we use them for. The only thing is that a shoe is not a weapon unless you live in Iraq. Ask Bush.

I say if you have the means to do something that you enjoy then go for it, no matter what it is.

Depends on what I want and what I want next probably isn't what you want. Now if you want to purchase my wish list and gift it to me... :friends:

I personally prefer quality over quantity. I bought a Wilson Combat CQB with one of my promotions. :packin:

Everything the the others said. But ...
I also like guns that complement what I already have, same caliber but different platform. For example, I have several .22's. Single shot bolt gun, pump action rifle, Ruger Charger semi auto pistol, single-six single action revolver. But a Browning Buck Mark or Ruger Mark III semi-auto would go along nicely. Also, a carbine in .357 (nice if it would eat .38, also) would be a fine companion to a couple of revolvers.
Like you, I have 1911's calling my name, as well.

6.8 SPC or Grendel.

They're dreamy.

6.8SPC is on my short list. Got to have something to pink with at the range, and something to hunt with. Right?

It is our patriotic duty as American Citizens to exercise our uninfringible rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the Constitution..to spend way too much on our gun collection. That's why I picked .38 caliber Colt revolvers. I collect Colts, but I carry a S&W model !0 with a 2"bbl. Don't ask, I don't know why.

I used to have a lot of guns in many different calibers. I found that most of the time they just sat in the safe. I thought this was a waste so I sold many of them and have started to be a little more particular. First off with handguns, I am trying to stick to as few a calibers as possible that way I can just focus on buying one, two, ok, ok ..I have too many..calibers. I am focusing on 9mm and .45 but I still have .40, .357 and .38sp along with my .22LR plinker. I have what I need (carry gun) and now I just play with what I think I will enjoy shooting. I have recently purchased a 1911 (because I did not have anything on that foundation) and a Glock 36 (cause I wanted the slimline frame, possible carry). Also traded a Glock .40 for a XD in .45.

Buy what moves you. If after a while its not what you really wanted, trade for something else, sort of like a wife :hysterical:
