I might apply for a position in VA (currently live in PA), and was wondering what negatives or downsides to being a firearm owner in VA are, if any. If that makes sense.
I'm still trying to read up on laws/regulations. It seems a lot of things are the same as here in PA. I have a NFA stamp I'd have to notify ATF of a change of address.
Just found the site today, going to keep looking around. If anyone has any comments/suggestions, please share. Thanks.

You will want to Look into and join the VCDL when ya get here. These are the guys who work HARD for your gun rights in Virginia!

I believe there are a couple of differences in the law that you might want to be aware of.
I think PA has something on the books about carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle without a permit. Here in VA thats OK as long as the firearm is not concealed.
PA applications for concealed permits are presented to and approved by the county sheriff. Here in VA the circuit court receives and processes the application and permits are approved and signed by a judge. Also, VA and PA reciprocity is a little different regarding other states - only a couple. You can find those on handgunlaw.us.
PA laws regarding use of force are fairly well spelled out. Here in VA they are somewhat murky and much is left to interpretation.
Is there still a waiting period in PA (48 hours) regarding the transfer of a firearm? Here in VA there is none once the BC is completed.
VA code allows counties and localities to regulate certain aspects of use and transport. I believe PA code does not allow preemption regarding these issues.
Bottom line is there are some differences. Please become familiar with VA code. We have links along the left hand menu on this page. Also, the links Jay provided - especially handgunlaw is a good one to use for comparison. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I moved to Roanoke 3 years ago and like it here.
I presented my PA CCW at the County court house and, for good measure I brought my hunter safety card and a past license. Received my permit with no problems.
Where are you moving to in Va?
