Spartacus Anyone?

Post by zephyp »

Well after a lifetime of waiting it finally happened. Young told me today she wants to go see Spartacus performed by the Bolshoi (Russian) Ballet Company. I'm quivering with excitement. I've never been to a real ballet performance. Have any of you? I'll take lots of pictures and post a full report this weekend...I cant wait. At least it wont be something silly like Tartuffe...[oh the things the we do for those we love... ]

Sorry, it had to be done.

Please tell us how it is. I've read some about the play and sounds like a very, very interesting experience. I assume the Kennedy Center?

I knew it. I told her she couldnt let anyone know I was going to a ballet. She asked why, dont they go to ballet too? I dont think so. She didnt believe me. I told her I would post it so she could read the comments.

@Bill - you know I would do anything for Young. She doesnt expect alot and she gives much. Going to the ballet (even if the guys do wear tights Henry) is an easy thing that will make her happy. Better than not going and dealing with the consequences...

Yes, the kennedy center so the only thing I will be OCing is Young...

I don't think we're very good dancers and others here don't like wearing tights. :-)

Well. I'm sure everyone will all be rooting for you. Have fun and keep an open mind.

Oh, based on my understanding, it's perfectly normal to look at the dancers legs.

Maybe we'll have a meet & greet at the next one. :hysterical:

I think that Ballet is okay, but they need to shuffle off the same ol' same ol ones that they do. Move this thing out of the 17th century. For example, instead of the Nutcracker and Mme Butterfly, try adapting Enter the dragon. It's made for it! Or how about Five deadly venoms? Seriously.

Yeah, I'll think about that tomorrow night when I'm watching all those quee girly men in tights leaping around the stage and wailing in high pitched voices as they twirl, spin, and kneel while draping their arms across their faces... :yeahright:

The only redeeming part (other than it being Spartacus) is that Young has agreed I can wear old (and I do mean old) jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket with NRA patch, and a redneck hat (little does she know I'm thinking it will be my camo Real Tree hunting cap). Its the Kennedy Center so carry is not an option... :hysterical:

Pictures will be taken for all to see - hopefully...

I've always heard that it's less stressful if you picture them in their underwear.

Oh wait, that's public speaking...never mind.

That's cool. Just remember to close your eyes when they get to the dance of the swingin' dongs.

Have fun tomorrow and remember...It's not 3D so you won't get your shooting eye poked out.

Have fun DK - My wife teaches classical violin, and she has dragged me to more than a couple of these (and operas). After I figured out what was in store after the show, I quit diggin in my heels so. :w00t: :)

Indeed and the saga of Spartacus came to an early end last evening, well actually yesterday afternoon. Young and I had a wonderful day together yesterday. I took the day off since her weekend is Tuesday/Wednesday so we could spend a little time together. We went to her favorite supermarket and picked up snow crab legs. She cooked them and we had Soju (Korean potato wine) and beer for a late afternoon our lunch. Big mistake. Young, weighing only about 100 pounds soaking wet, predictably looked at me after lunch and said "Honey, can we take a little nap before we go?" She is an after eating nap person (or 1 beer and 1 shot of Soju). As she pulled the covers over her head she asked "When do we need to get ready to go?" My response - "in 15 minutes." It was almost 5 PM and the show started at 7:30. To get there we were planning a drive to the Metro station, then a train ride, and then a 15 minute walk to the Kennedy Center.

Well, my "15 minutes" coupled with a big lunch, beer, and Soju only served to evoke a groan from my sweetheart and she pulled the covers farther over her head. So, I crawled into bed with her. One thing led to another and soon we were both snoring soundly. If it hadn't been for her talking Korean in her sleep I wouldn't have woken up on time for the show to start -- 7:30 PM. I groaned and pulled the covers over my head.

The funny thing is I got up, did some business in the bathroom and returned to our bedroom to find her sitting up rubbing her eyes.

"Sweety, can you please bring me a cup of coffee?"

Sure I said. I made her some coffee and returned to the bedroom where she was watching TV. Remember that it is now around 8 PM. She drinks the coffee and we chat for a little while.

Finally, about 9:00 (I was watching the clock) she sits bolt right up in the bed and blurts out: "Honey, did we miss the show?"

I couldnt believe it. She was awake for more than an hour, drank coffee, watched TV, and chatted with me until she finally remembered...the show.

Cup of coffee: Free, it was a Christmas gift
2 Spartacus tickets: $140.00

The look on Young's face: absolutely priceless...

:hysterical:

I will have to make it up to her and I will gladly do so. She is a wonderful woman and constantly goes out of her way to make sure I'm happy...
