Many on this borad our to young to remember this Kruschev quote but as I read it now and look at the direction our country is heading it scares me that it may come true.

I'm not ready to give up on this country just yet. That might be wishful thinking on my part, or maybe I'm still fired up from listening to Sarah Palin at the Tea Party Convention

And she did it all without a teleprompter. I guess you could say she had them all in the palm of her hand

I think Sarah is just using the tea party movement to keep herself in the spotlight. I did not attend, so I can't say anything about the content or delivery of her "speech". What parts I did see on FOX, reminded me of her campaign rehtoric when she was teamed up with John McCain. I admit she helped him somewhat, and for a short time, but she is NOT the future of America. She may be in line for Billy Mays empty seat, but she is not going to win the whitehouse, ever. I agree she could do the same or probably better than Obama, but I really HOPE , after we get rid of this mistake we will be much more careful about electing our next POTUS. Sarah Palin would make a good cabinet member, maybe even hockey czar...........

I thought it was something about "without firing a shot" ... this is what Wikipedia says....

Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev famously used an expression generally translated into English as "We will bury you!" ("Мы вас похороним!", transliterated as My vas pokhoronim!) while addressing Western ambassadors at a reception at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956.[1][2][3] In fact, it was somewhat distorted. The actual quote reads: "Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will dig you in" (Нравится вам или нет, но история на нашей стороне. Мы вас закопаем).

On August 24, 1963, Khrushchev himself remarked in his speech in Yugoslavia, "I once said, 'We will bury you,' and I got into trouble with it. Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you," [4] a reference to the Marxist saying, "The proletariat is the undertaker of capitalism", based on the concluding statement in Chapter 1 of the Communist Manifesto: "What the bourgeoisie therefore produces, above all, are its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the proletariat are equally inevitable".

G78 - in his first speech he did say without fireing a shot. I choose the second, i guess because of my mistrust of unions. Not sure about Sarah Palin have not decided if she is all fuff and no substance.

The subject is "Tea parties".

Tea is not a traditional American drink. In fact, it is a British drink by origin. On the other hand, coffee was virtually unknown in our colonial period. It became popular later in the 19th centuury as the result of colonization of the coffee-growing countries in Central and South America, the East Indies and Africa. Coffee is not a native American plant, nor is tea. Now, think about this for a minute and then tell me what are the only two native American drinks ever invented? There are two.

During colonial times, tea was imported to America by the British East India Company through London and then to the colonies. Yes, we were mostly "Limeys" in those days. The rest of us came later. The significance of this is the fact that "good" King George, that jolly, old inter-marrying philanderer, imposed a tax on our tea. But we had no "representation" in London, thus the tax was resented because it was "taxation without representation". So, one dreary night a bunch of the richer local gentry, interspersed with assorted thugs and ruffians in their employ, quietly dresssed up as "native Americans", boarded several ships at anchor in Boston (Mass) harbor and dumped the tea overboard. This became the famous "Boston Tea party". What's the difference between then and now?

Today we have "representation" of a sort and then we did not. So, my next question is: Why the current "Tea party" movement? An easy answer presents: The first "tea party" represented a grass-roots revolt against established royal authority; the current movement represents a revolt against " democratically elected representative authority". What's the difference you might ask? Simple: The tyranny of the Crown of England has been replaced by the tryanny of an elected minority of politicians, their hacks, lickspittles and "n'eer-do-wells" who claim they represent our interests in the nation's capitol. It's esentially the same old "tea bag", the difference being they wear business suits and we wear jeans and T-shirts. And we aren't even speaking the same language about the same issues. Ladies and gentlemen, these people are 100% "out of touch" with us or reality. Watch the elections this fall. I predict there will be an electoral blood-bath that will send these self-aggrandizing, arrogant philanderers packing on out of the harbor of democracy. One lump or two? BTW, the only two "native American" drinks ever invented are "Coca-Cola" and corn likker.

Well said, and that's why the Tea Party movement is bigger than any one person. The only way we will make a difference in November of 2010, or any other year, is to stop the petty bickering and organize. It can be done. Just look at how well the left did it in the months leading up to the 2008 election.
