11 Year Old Spotsylvania Boy Shoots Dog for Barking too Much
I wonder if this boy's parents will face any charges. Seems to me that an 11 year old boy wouldn't think to do something like that unless the parents had said something about it or otherwise put a similar thought in his head. Time for a psych eval either way!

An 11-year-old Spotsylvania boy shot his neighbor’s dog this week with a gun he stole from another neighbor, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Liz Scott said the boy told police that he shot the dog because it was barking too much.
Scott said the incident occurred Monday afternoon in the area of Mullins Court.
Mullins Court is a private dirt road off Spotswood Furnance Road, about two miles from Riverbend High School. There are only two homes on the road.
The dog’s owner reported that about 3 p.m., he heard his dog barking, heard a shot and then heard his dog whimpering.
The owner went outside and found the dog, a German Shepherd mix named Molly, lying on the front porch. She had been shot through the neck.
The dog was taken to St. Francis Animal Hospital, where it was treated and released. The dog is now recovering at home with non life-threatening injuries.
Deputy Chuck Carey and animal control officers responded to the area and were eventually contacted by a woman who had found a .22-caliber long rifle with a scope that didn’t belong to her family.
She said her son had admitted stealing it from a neighbor’s garage and had used it to shoot the dog.
Scott said she wasn’t sure when the gun was stolen, but it was taken before Monday. The owner, who lives on another street, knew the gun was missing but had not yet reported it, Scott said.
It was not clear exactly where the dog was when it was shot or how far away the shooter was. The boy’s home is about 100 yards from the dog owner’s home.
The boy was charged with larceny of a firearm, illegal possession of a rifle by a person under 18, reckless handling of a firearm and cruelty to animals. He was placed in the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Neely said it is rare for county children that young to be arrested and incarcerated, but he said officials are very concerned about the alleged behavior.
The boy will receive psychiatric testing, Neely said.

That's a result of being raised by television and video games and having no appreciation of "consequences" of one's actions.
My BIL's dog was shot (I forget either pellet or small caliber) and survived but has terrible separation anxiety now and does not like to be left outside because he was left alone and outside when he was shot.
People who do harm to domestic animals should face penalties similar to harming a person. Killing one should be tantamount to murder. Life. No parole.

My dog is family...
and very little irritates me more than the physical abuse of those unable to defend themselves, I hope that this young man is forced to work in the Animal Shelter (under close supervision) for many many hours of community service...
and his parents should be fined...lest they forget there pater famila duties, and it possible negligent consequences on others...
He stole that firearm and was looking for an excuse to use it...
and who the hell keeps a firearm in thier garage that a 11 yaear old can get at ????
every situation like this has a trail of errors, that align to create the perfect factors to make the unbelieveable situation a reality...
The boys actions were deplorable, but IMHO, the resposbility started with the firearm owner...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

You got that right. Mine are just like little kids. Helpless and innocent. I cant imagine anyone doing something so dirty. Travis is spot on too. Kids nowadays have no appreciation of consequences nor respect for anything other than the rules they make for themselves.BluemontGlock wrote:My dog is family...

... agree; and I'll add that i TRUST my dog more than most people (doggie treats aside, dog ain't selling me out for convenience).
This kid is really messed up; and so are the parents - the other thing that bothers me (and I know the gun was stolen, but how much "secured, safe, etc" is your system when an 11yr old can circumvent...? in a garage, etc...???) the gun-owner didn't have better control over the weapon used.

After the first sentence of the story , I could make my judgement, put this kid in jail after he is old enough to leave the juvenile detention center. Sterilize both parents IF there are two, and let the dog bite this little retard. I would also ask the gun owner what he was waiting for to report a stolen gun? What is there something in the water around there?allingeneral wrote:

The gun owner didn't report it cause he would have had to admit it was stored improperly and irresponsibly!
Re: 11 Year Old Spotsylvania Boy Shoots Dog for Barking too Much
No there's nothing in the water around here. STUPID is a worldwide problem, you just have higher concentrations in some areas. I agree with the comments made earlier. This child was probably raised by TV and video games and as far as the gun owner.....I'm speechless.

I can vouch for that based on current and previous experience.wylde007 wrote:Like government building, for instance.ss313 wrote:you just have higher concentrations in some areas.

Something is wrong with these parents and the monster kid. I hope they throw the book at the parents as well as the kid. In reality nothing will happen because most people think animals lives are not valuable or important. Let us not forget you can kick someone when they're down but you better watch out when they get up.
