National Ammo Shortage Is Suspicious

The problem is that those companies with a federal contract have to fill them first and since the army is "low on ammo" that must be done first.

My wally world almost always has BB .40s&W and 12ga they even had some 9mm a little bit ago but no federal .22LR bulk
ive been trying to get my hands on the bulk for 3 weeks now im down to 100 rounds and that wont last long
Why cant a guy just get some .22

the federal brass is still going where it always has to the reloaders, esp Georgia arms and ammo

How much .22LR ammo does the military use? I can't imagine that we can blame the military for shortages of .22 ammo, or .380 or .38. Military use is .40 cal and above for the most part, isn't it? I know the smallest thing I shot in the military was a .45. (the biggest was a 25mm chain gun - man, that thing was BAD!)

Companies are currently being forced to produce on their contracts which means that some of them have had to re tool machines to produce faster meaning less ammo in other calibers the biggest problem is the .223 they are apparently low and so that has been made a top priority by the DOD i remember reading somewhere about some executive order. i will see if i can find it

but yeah .22lr is only used for target and small game i dont see it having a major use in the military any time soon

The small arms calibers they use the most of should be .223 (M16), .308 (M60), 9mm (M9), .50 bmg (M2), and .22lr (M16). I understand the Air Force uses .22lr for training. Some other calibers I'm sure are used but in no where near the quantities of those I just mentioned. Lake City Arsenal is run under contract to manufacture military ammo. DLA is required by regulation to offer spent brass to Lake City Arsenal, if it is not needed it can then be sold as scrap. So if they are selling spent brass instead of reloading it then they either 1) have a big stockpile of brass or 2) aren't manufacturing as much ammo as people think. I think the 2 main reasons for the shortage are: law enforcement agencies are stockpiling whatever they can and; the increase in firearms sales has increased demand for ammunition.

I think the overall biggest reason for the shortage is people Hording the ammo and then trying to reseel at rediculous prices for a profit

If dealers could get ammo at their normal sources, they wouldn't feel the need to ransack WalMart.

Maybe dealers can;t get their orders due to the sheer size of Walmarts orders,,,At 100 boxes of each caliber X ? of stores can add up to awful lot of ammo,,,A far fetched theory I know but it is possible that large orders are being favored over smaller orders due to the $$$$$ factor,,, These companies are making more $$$$ than they ever did,,,,, It seems like Wally';s is getting their;s but a lot of others are not! HMMMMM makes me wonder,,,,,

Walmart selling out because dealers are buying it from them? The dealers I've been too have empty shelves also though so I can't believe that. Could be an attempt by the manufacturers to drive up prices, create a false shortage so prices will go up.

that is a real possibility
what gets me is the fact that walmart has not really raised their prices at all for ammo
they just sell it when they have it were as dealers are trying to make 200-300% profit off the ammo

i think one thing that would help is for the manufacturers to hold off on shipping out ammo at all for some time period 2-4 weeks

only ship out ammo to law enforcement, military contracts and to areas were hunting is a major staple.
then what they can do is to flood the market with lots of ammo and that might help a little especially if walmart keeps to their 2 boxes per person per caliber per day that they have by me.
it would at most put a small stall in the hording because now people can get ammo and wont be willing to pay absurd amounts of money for it and that would really hurt the people that are hording it just to resell at 500%

I can't believe whats happening. I live in a rural area and no one has ammo, not wal mart and not the small shops either, you can't find any out here. I have trouble believing that I can't buy 22's.

I used to shoot all the time, but I haven't been target shooting in over a month, I'm saving everything I have.
