Authorities in central New Jersey seized a cache of weapons and ammunition including rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope from the motel room of a Virginia man arrested early Monday by officers responding to a report of a suspicious person.
Virginia man Lloyd Woodson, 43, was arrested early Monday in central New Jersey. In his hotel room, authorities discovered a cache of weapons including high-powered rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope along with information on a nearby military base. Collapse
Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said Lloyd R. Woodson, 43, of Reston, Va., also had maps of a U.S. military facility and a town in another state.
Forrest said Woodson was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle concealed under his green, military-style jacket when officers encountered him at a Quick Chek store in Branchburg shortly before 4 a.m. Monday.
As officers started to question him, Woodson fled on foot toward a nearby trailer park, Forrest said. Officers found him hiding in some bushes and tackled him when he tried to run away again. The officers used pepper spray to subdue him.
Forrest said the rifle Woodson was carrying had a defaced serial number and had been altered to fire .50-caliber ammunition.
Detectives later searched the room where Woodson had been staying at the Red Mill Inn in Branchburg. Forrest said they seized another Bushmaster .308-caliber semiautomatic rifle with a defaced serial number, a 37 mm Cobray grenade launcher, a second bulletproof vest, a Russian-made night vision scope, a police scanner, the maps and hundreds of rounds of .50-caliber and .308-caliber ammunition.
Woodson was being held at the Somerset County Jail on numerous charges, including unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited weapons, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
Bail has not yet been set. Woodson was tentatively scheduled for an initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Spokesman Jack Bennett said the prosecutor's office did not know whether Woodson had retained a lawyer.
Forrest said investigators from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined the investigation.

What a dummy. I wonder what he was up to. Too bad he decided to go to Joisey. That's a bad place to be with guns - you can't even possess hollow points there. Defaced serial numbers and a grenade launcher
...hmmm. tsk. tsk.
Massive weapons cache? He had two guns. lol Sensationalism at its best.
Everything else was legal in a normal state, right? I mean - bullet-proof vests and night-vision goggles...legal?

Two or more weapons = arsenal (or massive weapons cache)
In any case, it sounds like he was up to no good.

Re: VA Man Busted With Massive Weapons Cache
From the updated ABC News article on this "In addition to the grenade launcher, one of the two rifles was modified to fire .50-caliber rounds, the same rounds used in many anti-tank rifles. Such firepower is not often seen outside military bases or distant battlefields. "
Guess I am glad I sold my S&W 500. Now I need to dispose of the 200+ rounds of .50 I have remaining before I am labeled a terrorist.

Why? We're all already labeled by this administration as extremists. IMO thats only one step away in the progression. Some see it as the same thing.viiiball wrote:From the updated ABC News article on this "In addition to the grenade launcher, one of the two rifles was modified to fire .50-caliber rounds, the same rounds used in many anti-tank rifles. Wow, if "they" call 3 or 4 weapons a massive cache I wonder what my collection would be called...

Re: VA Man Busted With Massive Weapons Cache
.50s are a blast (no pun intended) to shoot. With the right rifle (certainly not a carbine) they are an excellent sporting caliber for long range target shooting (I'm sure you know that already). I'd love to have one but dont care to lay that kind of cash down for weapon or ammo.

Umm, I hate to sound like an idiot here, but what Bushmaster semi automatic can be converted to .50 and concealled?

Right. Why not just cut down a Barret? Not that I would suggest ruining a fine weapon. If he did convert a Bushmaster to a functional .50 then he knew what he was doing or had help.

I was wondering that too... it can't be .50 BMG. Maybe it had been chambered for the .50 cal handgun round???USMCGunner wrote:Umm, I hate to sound like an idiot here, but what Bushmaster semi automatic can be converted to .50 and concealled?
As far as concealment goes, that depends on what he was wearing. Although, I guess he wasn't successful at concealment if someone spotted it.

Ah, maybe the .50 AE. That would make better sense but would still take a bit of work.

With the lack of intelligence, especially regarding firearms the guy could have had an M-2 Browning .50 cal and they would not have known the difference. These numb-nuts don't know a Ruger 10/22 from a Thompson sub-machine gun and from their reporting it leaves holes in the facts big enough to drive an 18 wheeler through!

After poking around on some other forums, it seems that this was a .50 Beowulf conversion. If it was converted to .50 BMG, it wouldn't have been a semi-auto.zephyp wrote:Ah, maybe the .50 AE. That would make better sense but would still take a bit of work.
