Ejecting right in my face! part 2

Post by frac »

A while back I bought some 147gr ranger 9mm and in the sig 229 and the walther p99, the shells were repeatedly ejecting right towards my face, hitting my forehead, landing on my eyepro, etc, etc. I theorized that it might be subsonic ammo that was not proving enough force to clear the chamber properly. I discounted the idea that the 229 and the P99 had broken ejectors because they had never done that before. I shot other types of ammo in them and they ok. Now, today I went to sharpshooters, was patronized by the fat guy there for a while, and then shot the rest of the ranger 9mm out of a Ruger p85. It performed better, at least to not send hot brass towards my nose over and over. So those of you that care, the p85 ate up the ranger pretty well, shooting better than either the sig or the p99. Shot groups were tighter and no small burn marks on my face or neck. I am thinking it's because the p85 has a larger folding ejector and has a totally different barrel retention, locked in place by the slide lock through a small ring. So there's the final report on that. However, no more 147gr ranger for me unless I know it's plus p. Thoughts?

Only thing I can think of is certain ammo will perform a certain way in a certain firearm. I have a Sig 228 and 226 and have never had ejection issues with either,, Now on the 228 ,, American Eagle has a higher FTF rate than any other ammo (0) so I simply don;t use it. Whenever I have tried a new ammo, especially defense ammo, I always buy extra boxes and run them through the gun just to see if it will perform as intended..Costs a little more to test but it is worth the peace of mind to know that it does work properly,,,,,

Can anyone give me an opinion on Federal 135 Hydra-Shok JHp for my Glock 26 as defense ammo?

don't know about the 135 but I use the federal 180 hydra shock for my glock 35(40 S&W) as my defense ammo and have not had any issues with it .

I think that most of the hydroshok is also plus p. I've fired some round just to see how they did (too expensive for regular range time) and they seem to do well. I did not notice any stronger recoil.
