Oh by the way, we still have some dumb laws on our Va law books that I'm sure most of us break on a regular basis.

Ex. 18.2-341. Working or transacting business on Sunday.

A. On the first day of the week, commonly known and designated as Sunday, no person shall engage in work, labor or business or employ others to engage in work, labor or business except in the following industries and businesses:

Ok, my turn. Noffy's post never said a damn thing about his demeanor anytime during the stop. You sir could have been a nice guy that just got caught at a bad time or you could have been a complete butthoile during the stop and caused the Officer to in fact do his job the way he saw fit to do so. With 25 year's of doing his job I can say for the record that other then an accident or a DUI all ticket's that I wrote were in fact written for the bad attitude of the person that was stoped.

Now if you want to flame me go right ahead, but remember I have lived on Both Sides of the Fence.

I have not had a traffic "infraction" in many years. The last time I was stopped was for alleged DUI (dismissed) over three years ago.

I have been stopped on foot four times since I started OCing again.

I try very hard not to give them any reason to stop me whether I'm carrying or not. If I go over the speed limit its only because everyone else is too.

No way bro, I have been pulled over many many times for speeding, just as luck would have it, not since I got my CHP, and that's only been a month.

But now that I have it, sometimes I slow down because of it... :)

Actually, this leads me to another question. The law regarding carrying concealed on a motorcycle, any different?

No.

At least, not by statute.

Dustin, I do not need a special permit to carry a knife so I do not feel I need to notify anyone of that fact. Guns make people nervous (i.e. can be a big deal) so in order to alleviate some of the nerves I am going to let him/her know. And I do believe its all in the delivery. If you tell the LEO "I HAVE A GUN" and make a move toward your hip there is probably going to be a reaction you will not welcome. If you politely say "Officer I have my concealed carry permit and I currently have my firearm with me" you will get a somewhat more calm reaction (I would hope). I am not nor have I ever been in law enforcement but when putting myself in their shoes I would appreciate knowing that someone has an active firearm.

I am just trying to remove some possible steam. I see no harm (unless you have an over zealous cop) in informing the officer that you are currently carrying. I am not in the "its my right and I don't need to let them know" crowd. To me that a bit too tinfoil hatish.

Definitely can agree with that statement, I'm not in the "it's my right and I don't need to tell them" crowd either, but in Richmond when they pull you over they run your plates before they get out of the car, which (I'm not 100% on this) I think puts up a note about the driver having a concealed permit. Again, not 100% on this but I think that's the case.

So I'd assume they know you have it when they approach the car, therefore negating the need to tell them.

Perhaps the best way to approach the whole issue is ask the Officer:

"Hey, here's my ID & Registration, do you need to see my weapon permit as well?" Gives him the option to just say, "No, but thank you, did you know your..(insert problem here)..."

Kind of a middle ground...

No your not the only speeder. How many mornings have we followed each other up Rt.81 doing 75-80? Just be more watchful in the future, so they don't catch you.

Hell I will tell you that I in fact speed but I will also tell you that if I get stoped for speeding then I will keep my mouth shut and do what ever the officer tell's me to do. I will inform them that I have a weapon in the center counsel as that is where my wallet is and I won't come up as a weapon's permit holder in DMV when they run my plates.

No need to flame.

I was overly polite. Maybe you would have let me off. Everyone has a bad day...but don't let it carry over into your work. As a matter of fact he said that when we went to court he would tell the Judge that I was cooperative. Does that sound like somebody being rude. Like I said I was speeding, I was wrong and next time(hope not) but I won't say a word about my permit. Its easy to say what people would do or not do until it happens to you. Lesson learned.
