Washington State Permits in VA

Post by Lumpia2 »

Hi all, I am relatively new to firearms so pardon me if this seems ignorant.

Is my Washington State CHP going to be recognized in Virginia? Also I know that some states are maintaining some kind of assault weapon ban which makes it illegal for a normal citizen to own the Glock 19. Is this the case in Virginia?

I will be spending more and more time in Virginia as time progresses (hopefully) but my work is in Seattle so I must maintain my residency here.

Thanks in advance!

Look forward to talking with you all!

Welcome to VGOF...looks like VA will indeed honor your permit.

Here's a good site to check these things out. Click on the state your interested in and the details come up in a PDF.

Sure you are not thinking of the Glock 18, can not think why a Glock 19 would be banned compared to a Glock 17, 22 etc.

The Glock 18 can fire fully automatic so requires the special permits for machine-guns, and since it is to new to have been grandfathered in I don't think Civilians can get one even with the correct permits for machine-gun ownership. There is also a .380 Glock (forgot the number) that is only available new for LEO purchase due to import restrictions. In any case yes, in VA you can buy a Glock 19 and the only limitation of "assault type" weapons is limited to restrictions on open carry in certain cities without a CHP.

I'm not sure but maybe the Glock 19 can carry more than a certain number of rounds. Ok, just looked it up and it carries 19 rounds. No not illegal in VA and not considered an assault weapon. Anything over 20 (if memory serves) in a HG is forbidden and CHP holders are exempt. Here's the code section.
