Private Transfer of gun ownership
Hi all - new to the forum so good to "meet" you! I'm thinking of buying a gun from my brother who lives in New Jersey. It would seem to me that if he brings the gun to VA there is nothing special we need to do to transfer the ownership? Or am I confusing registering a gun from transferring ownership of a gun. If I go there, I know there are all kinds of fees and laws we'd have to deal with. Anyone know the answer or can send me a link on how it would work if he drives it down?
Re: Private Transfer of gun ownership
If he is a New Jersey resident and you are a Virginia resident you have to go through a FFL. In general, no private sales between residents of different states.
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

I went through this with my daughter in Ohio last year.
I wanted to give her a pistol as a graduation present (OSU grad).
Since I live in Virginia, we went to a FFL in Ohio and I paid their fee to LEGALLY transfer the pistol to my daughter.
The woman behind the counter was quite confused and another clerk had to give her a little OJT.
You REALLY don't want to face federal firearms charges these days as a non 1%er.

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
