City employee fired for gun in car, sues for RKBA

Post by AlanM »

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- A former Portsmouth employee has filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming they violated his Second Amendment rights.

The lawsuit says Reginald McManes, 57, had worked for the city over 30 years before he was allegedly forced to resign over an unloaded handgun he kept locked in his truck.

McManes says he was on his break at the Royal Farms gas station on May 2 when he was first approached by a city official about having a gun at the workplace.

He says this all happened despite the fact that he had a valid concealed weapon carry permit.

SNIP

Virginia code allows for employees of municipalities, like McManes, to store lawfully possessed guns in locked private cars at the workplace and forbids the city from preventing that.
Here's to Mr. McManes! I hope he is satisfied by the eventual outcome as he attempts to fight this injustice.

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.

The WAVY article shows pictures of a city truck while saying "his" truck. The Pilot article makes a clearer distinction...personal vehicle.

Oh, and yes, I hope we are all satisfied by the outcome.

As long as the government can hide behind the taxpayers this stuff will not change.

They will use lawyers paid for by the taxpayers. They will use taxpayer money to pay court costs and pay fines and pay any judgement against them if the guy they fired gets a monetary judgement.

Until the people breaking the laws, the people found guilty, the people who lose the suit are held personally accountable this crap will continue.

If this doesn't cost them a dime of their money they'll feel "no pain" and they'll keep doing what they've been doing.

We pay for their mistakes.

At this point, I'm sure that y'all know my stance on the topic.

However, I find myself wondering how anyone found out about a pistol, hiding away in the glovebox of a personal vehicle.

I know of a woman that told sheriff's deputies about her husband's still. That may or may not be the case here, but it is one possibility.

I could see "ex"'s as being a good way of getting busted too...
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

Then "Evil Exes" do things like that... it's why I only told the "Woman" about what I have.

Figured 14 years, she's a'ight for a white girl.
