Insurance advice

Post by kelu »

We know that carrying a firearm can become extremely expensive if you are forced to use it. With mass media stirring a civil war, the odds now are 100x than only 1 year ago.
I am looking for advice for insurance. Who, how much insurance.
Any opinions or personal experiences?

These are the top three. I have no experience with any. Considering I don't leave the state that often, and I have a really good attorney on speed dial.. I generally go with God most of the time...

One suggestion someone posed, "LLC'ing everything", and then you don't have to worry, but I cannot speak upon that.

I have found that if you're finding a good defense attorney for a defensive shooting? Find one that specializes in that very thing... If you cannot find one that specializes in it? find the Meanest Homicide Drug Attorney in town... cuz' that sucker has dealt with some trash, and damned sure can make a better case than your local "Family Lawyer".

Kelu, LLC'ing refers to creating an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) then placeing all of your assets, house, cars, ect in the LLC. Then if someone sues you personally in Civil court they can't touch anything in the LLC. The standard I am not a lawyer please check with one rule applies. When I had my NFA trust setup, my lawyer told me if I wanted to be a dick, I could put everything I own in it, and designate who got what in case I died, and no one could touch anything in there. I have to assume, and you know how that is, that he was speaking from knowledge.

Ha. That's a neat trick. But the fact that I own that LLC, can't be considered as assets and taken?

The whole point of an LLC is asset protection. Though, I think that the original idea was to protect a business owners personal assets (or, those assets not part of the LLC) in case the business got sued.

Either way, as I understand it, the LLC becomes its own separate entity. As such, the concept has come to be used in creative ways.

You can also do a Property Trust, which is what I did. There are no annual fees or federal tax filing requirements, like you would have with an LLC. I also have a separate Trust, just for firearms related property.

Casey Stevens is a great attorney. He did a great job for us on 2 criminal cases in the last year. I can give you specifics on person.

Also, Ken Cuccinelli (Conservative and former Va Attorney General) has a law firm that specializes in defending citizens who had to use a firearm for self defense. I don't have any experience with him as an attorney, but I have worked with him and one of his partners on a political issue a few years back. Great group of men.
