Better Shot with Pistol Than Rifle??? LOL
Well, I don't what the heck I'm doing right or wrong. I had a great time at the range with a few friends of mine on Saturday. Something strange that happened is, I seem to be a better shot out to 35 or 40 yards with a pistol than with a rifle. I don't know if its my zero or what... but its got me wondering.
At 100 yards, I can ring steel with my pistol pretty regularly now. Yesterday, using my Walther PPQ on 100 yard targets, I hit an 8x11 steel plate 12 out of 15 shots. I landed 11 in a row and I wasn't slow shooting either. So, I felt a little cocky and started shooting at some golf balls that were about 35 yards out. With one mag, I was able to hit 4 golf balls. Man it was a good time. I really surprised myself at how well I did.
Well, A bit later, I grabbed my M4 clone and took a few shots at the golf balls. With a 30 round mag, I didn't hit a single ball. I could see splash in the dirt all around them, but no contact.
Well, my AR is zeroed for 100 yards. Its 3" from the top of my iron sight to the center of the barrel. Since I use a "six low" on the sight picture, I figured I would need to aim 2.5"-3" high to make contact. So, is that about right and I just missed, or am I messing up the hold-over?

That's a problem I would like to have.
You were tearing it up yesterday with your pistol skills.
I don't know what to tell you. My AR that you helped me zero for 100yds a couple of weeks ago, when I shot at some stuff inside 50yds yesterday I was aiming straight on and it seemed to be hitting POA.

Thanks for the kudos, Jon! I was having a great time, that's for sure
Glad to hear the zero is holding for you. You really scored a great setup with that while rifle.
I guess I'm doing something wrong. I just don't know what.

I can top that... I had a single action vaquero in a holster... drew, and hit the gong at 15 yards....QUICK! Everyone's back was to me as they reloaded mags...

Ehhh. accuracy is overrated anyway. Just stick to the bump stock, you'll hit something, lol.
That thing was a bit of a handful but I'd love to shoot it some more, I think I could get the hang of it. I'll have to bring some extra ammo just for that next time.

Yea, man... for sure. I'll bring it with me so you can have some more fun. Got to get some cheap .223 so it doesn't hurt the wallet too much.

I know that feeling. First time I hit the gong, I turned around and not a soul was watching. Oh well. Just more incentive to do it again... LOL

Let me ask you, are you cross eye dominate? Maybe you're using your dominate eye with the pistol but your non dominate with the rifle?MarcSpaz wrote:Well, I don't what the heck I'm doing right or wrong. I didn't even think about visual acuity or vision health in general. I am right eye dominate and shot my rifle with my right eye. However, I shoot my pistol with both eyes open. It might actually be a depth perception issue.Jakeiscrazy wrote:Let me ask you, are you cross eye dominate? Maybe you're using your dominate eye with the pistol but your non dominate with the rifle?
Man... I am going to have to try shooting the rifle with both eyes open. Thanks for the reply. I really think there is something there.

I actually feel like you have been shooting pretty good Marc. A couple Saturday's ago when we were shooting mostly our lever rifles you were giving the steel a real workout !!! Your lever rifles all have iron sights while the semi auto's are scoped. I always prefer scopes with cross hairs over red dots. We will have to work on it !!!

Yea man... That was a good time. That 44-40 was spot on!
I think my glasses cause issues when I shoot with magnified optics. But I have seen too many videos of guns blowing up in peoples hands... So I'll just keep those on. LOL
