Randy if those HoBo's come back around you be sure and let us know. :)
The target visually appears to be fractions of an inch at 100 yards. If you moved your POA less than 1/8", you would have missed. Considering you never tried it before and you hit it within the first few shots (4th or 5th?), don't undersell yourself on that one man... You did great!
WRW wrote:Carry on! I seem to recall that the drop for that shot would be around 8" using that configuration. An admirable feat, there.

I was using a Federal 165gr. They are rated at about an inch at 100 yards. The rounds that are 180gr or more drop a lot faster.

Very rare that I see anyone around Front Royal/Strasburg OC. Did see one guy recently at a pizza place in Strasburg. I don't get any comments around here.

I figured, out your way, it would be more well received than in NOVA at a minimum. I love that whole area. I'm sure there are some things here and there that pop-up on the grid sometimes, but it seem so peaceful out that way. Lot of tourist traffic though...

Yeah, it is very quiet out this way. Gun violence is usually limited to family squabbles. Only real problem we have out this way is drugs.

Hey, did anyone see that property in Franklin County, VA for sale? 227 acres going for $485,000. Do the math, that's about $2,200 an acre.

I live in Franklin County. If you have anymore info on the property, I'll see what I can find out about it.

I open carry around my property, but not in public.

I would think that it would be safer for people open carry in groups. One person, by themselves, may be giving one or more thugs the opportunity to smack them upside the head from behind and take their handgun from them.

It's happened before.

Open carrying, in a group, is "open" back up and should make thug types decide that trying to tackle one armed person, in a group of armed people, is a really bad idea.

I've heard of that kind of stuff. I saw video of a guy who was CC, but printing, and the guy in line behind him stole his gun.

Situational awareness is critical. OC or CC.

There was a steady 8mph breeze with some gusts up to about 11, maybe 12 mph... 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock. I aimed at the top left corner of the plate to give a comfortable negative lead and to account for drop with the wind and let it fly.

Shooting a pistol at 100 yards, seeing and hearing that get hit is an awesome feeling. It's hard to repeat, be we pulled it off a few times. I'm going to practice every chance I get...really enjoyable.

As for the carry thing, I generally carry CC, but will OC without concern, generally IWB. Now for the 100 yard pistol shooting, you guys would love our 4-H kids that shoot pistol silhouette they shoot from 25 yards to 100 yards standing with pistols at 30-35 pound steel rams at the 100 yard mark. Many score 5 out of 5 hits. Back a few years ago I used to shoot pistol silhouette, where our longest shots were at 200 meters on 55 pound steel rams that had to come completely off the stand. We couldn't just knock them over they had to come off to count, these were shot with large caliber hand guns using only open sights. I know exactly what you mean Mark about the satisfaction of that ringing sound when you smack the steel at 100 plus yards. Last time I was at a 4-H state match I asked the range master I was assisting if I could shoot at the 100 yard rams with my Air Rifle. First he laughed, then asked if I was serious. Once confirmed, he gave me permission, and you should have seen the look on his face when I started knocking down rams at the 100 yard mark with that air rifle. What a rush...

We try to keep it fun for the kids as well as get in a little bit for the adults. I have truly enjoyed being a 4-H coach, nothing else quite like seeing a young person grow from timid to a top notch marks person in just a couple of years. I know you guys must have heard that WV just won the NCAA Nationals, and our Olympic gold medalist is a member of their shooting team. Seems the girls beat the pants off the boys. :)

Just a quick search.

Now, if you can see in a 360 degree arc at all times and you never get distracted by the wife/kids, etc., this probably won't happen to you. On the other hand.

Both of those threads are pretty much factless and as far as bearing arms, we don't know why Trevor attacked Walker except for speculation. In the Richmond case I believe it wasn't actually known at the time if he was open carrying or not.
I also find it hard to believe that someone can just come up and pull your firearm from it's holster unless you just happen to have it shoved in your waist band (and that DID happen to some homey's P22).
In other words, maybe it has happened, but facts so we can all learn from this would be nice.
I can post articles of CCer's getting their guns snatched also. I guess the safest thing to do is not carry.

Nah, a retention holster and paying attention is a great first and second step. Getting some training on weapon retention and practicing is a good idea too.

I actually keep a knife on my weak hand hip. If I am struggling with someone to retain my firearm, I can deploy my knife for defensive purposes while trying to hold the weapon in the holster.
