The other day, I went into a truckstop restaurant, probably in Oregon, for some breakfast. On my way in, I made a pitstop at the gift shop, and looked at their display of snarky buttons. One of them contained this little pearl of wisdom:

"Sometimes, a majority only indicates that all the idiots are in agreement."

Remember that, next time you hear some BS about popular vote vs electoral.

Democracy is based on the assumption that a million men are wiser than one man. How’s that again? I missed something.

Autocracy is based on the assumption that one man is wiser than a million men. Let’s play that over again, too. Who decides?

Any government will work if authority and responsibility are equal and coordinate. This does not insure “good” government; it simply insures that it will work. But such governments are rare--most people want to run things but want no part of the blame. This used to be called the “backseat-driver syndrome.”

Sometimes, a majority just means more than half of the idiots agree. That's what is so damned dangerous about pure democracy.

Sometimes all it takes is a convincing leader.

I learned that when my teen aged daughter yelled, "Follow me, Dad!" while on the ski slopes as she entered a trail through a stand of trees.

I succeeded in putting one ski track on each side of a 6" tree trunk.
Nearly broke or dislocated both thumbs cushioning the impact.
