So this progressive/communist is talking about some sports drivel, and I'm working, and he chimes "Hey what do you think about ( Couldn't care any less, don't have a clue name)?"

"Dunno, I hate sports." I continue to work.

"How can you be a real man, and hate sports?" He says snarkily.

"Dunno, how can you be a real man that has never fired a weapon, or not know how to change the oil in your vehicle, or repair a toilet?" I continue to work. He quietly grumbles, and walks away.

And, that sums up my general opinion on sports and masculinity.

Oddly, Rev, I have had that same conversation. Drives me up the damn wall.

A common occurrence for me.
A friend once asked me who I thought was going to win the World Series.
I responded with, "I don't know, who's playing?"
He looked at me like I had just grown a second head and said, "The fifth game is tomorrow. How do you NOT know who's playing?"
That was nearly 30 years ago and it's the same every year.
Ignorance and apathy, I don't know and I don't care.

Playing sports can define and refine certain characteristics, among them would be sportsmanship. Watching other people play, to me, would be merely a vicarious thrill and/or entertainment.
And a chainsaw pretender? Defining yourself by what you are not? That's about like the New York cowboys of the 70's. Dedicated followers of fashion.

Loved to play baseball, football and basketball with my friends. Love to race cars and enjoy pretty women. Can't stand watching any of it on TV. Anyone who questions my masculinity because of it is in for a rude awaking... well something rude. They'll probably still be an F'tard when its over.

Plus, from what I see/heard on the news, it basically turned into a platform for Libs and the occasional man-child to tell 10 million people how much they hate a country that made them rich because we're a bunch of murdering, plundering racists. I definitely don't feel like seeing/hearing that crap.

I am dismayed at the superficial males of today that are helpless when confronted with things that are outside their urban environment. I spent my summers with my grangfather spending a month as an apprentice for different crafts and trades over 7 summers and an additional two months working on his small farm each summer. No electricity or running water. He felt that I needed to learn skills that are needed when I became an adult and he was right.

Decades of being insulted about my manhood, my fears, my "white male privilege", my social status, my financial status.

If you think really hard, they're showing their own vulnerabilities.

THEY worry if they "stack up", THEY worry about something happening to them (Hence the guv'mint becomes a parent from cradle to grave), they worry that some minority will be offended by something they say, or that they're not "poor enough", or they're "too wealthy" (AKA "Limo Libs").

Real strength, real backbone, real fortitude, real independence frightens them. I won't play their game. I usually turn it on them, and make them backpeddle.

I wish Prog/Commies would pack, and move to the Nordic regions they uphold so highly.

Sad but true. I tried to teach my sons self reliance. Time will tell how it takes. 23, & 20yr olds are both married, & in the military. Neither have asked for anything since their departure from the nest. 5+ yrs, & working on 2yrs so far.

From firewood to carpentry, & basic knowledge of other trades, I've at least tried to show them how to do for yourself, & maintain your own property. Knowing when to hire an expert in a field vs. doing it yourself is the algebra. My wife & I have shown by example that an investment in knowledge, & tools is a far better investment than hiring someone else to do the most basic of tasks. Granted, being a contractor for the last 25yrs gives me an advantage over most. However, the desire to fix things, as well as build/remodel things comes from a father figure I had as much as it does from experience in the construction trades.

A few tools & some basic knowledge is pretty valuable. I hope it benefits my children as adults. I see plenty of young people that can't read a tape measure. However, living in a rural area, I do see a good number that are very capable of sustaining themselves somewhat. I'm sure it's a much higher percentage than those coming from urban areas worried about someone assuming their gender....

Like a lot of folks, I played football in high school around 50 years ago, and wrestled and ran track because the football coach made me do it. I was a pretty decent offensive and defensive lineman. I used to be a pretty strong football fan. But somewhere along the line many of these pro players stopped being iron men who made good but not fantastic money and became hothouse superstars. Then they went on strike during the Carter administration when a lot of their fans were laid off and out of work. I decided then that I no longer gave a damn who won a pro ball game and would refrain from rooting for one damned labor union over another or doing anything else to contribute to the support of overpaid, under-educated, spoiled-rotten liberally-biased prima donnas who happen to be able to play a schoolboy’s game particularly well. I remained an avid upland bird hunter and became an enthusiastic waterfowl hunter and continued my lifelong pursuit of shooting and fishing. As I got older and accumulated increasingly debilitating physical problems, I cared even less about pro sports and team sports in general. I too deplore the helplessness of the younger generations. In my own industry, it has, among other things, taken the form of 2-3 generations of “managers” who lack what used to be deemed minimum levels of subject-matter expertise. Instead, they rely upon and are completely at the mercy of outside “consultants”. This involves lack of control and breathtaking expense, but it allows the “managers” to avoid responsibility for any setbacks or suboptimal results. They just blame the “consultant”. The country seems to have been inherited by brainless, ball-less incompetents who barely know how to unlock the front door of their offices and can’t change a tire without a consulting engineer on hand. Hell, my son-in-law, a Pennsylvania Yankee who was good enough to be suffered to join the family, not only can’t drive a straight transmission but doesn’t even know he ought to be ashamed of that. Oh well, maybe some day my daughter (who was raised right) will teach him.

Also, it shocks management today when you say "Yup! I screwed up! I figured it out, and I fixed it. What else can I do for you today?"

These "new managers" as you said cannot wrap their minds around it. They want to "punish you" for making an honest error. To the point that HR has had to explain to them. "Unless he's raping, murdering, beating up someone, or stealing? Leave him be."

I just don't see anything on which to base a loyalty or fanship towards any particular team. I'm not from anywhere that has a team. And, even if I were, team members seem to be picked from all over the place, and are then subject to being traded, or whatever. It's silly. I don't get it.

Also, I am just not a "team player". I always hated when places I worked would make reference to teams, and team players and whatnot. No, I am an employee. I am here to fix broken stuff. Leave me alone and let me do what I'm paid to do. Now, I drive. It's nice to avoid meetings, and I no longer have to deal with corporate politics, and arguments over the mundane.

I note that, when I was in school, much emphasis was placed on teams, and teaming up, and teamwork. Since then, I see the same emphasis practically everywhere I go. It's almost as if the modern world has forgotten about the concept of independence. Not every project requires a multitude of people.

On the topic of changing tires, since Dorm brought it up, my sister has a boyfriend in high school, and they went out in her car, one night. Shortly after they left, my father received a call from my sister, who had gotten a flat tire, and she asked him to come help her.

Well, Dad got there, and realized that this boy was with her. Come to find out, this boy was clueless about changing tires. So, Dad gave the kid a brief rundown on tire changing theory, showed him the required tools, then Dad and Sister sat in Dads car as the boy changed his first tire... in the rain, on a cold winter night. I'm pretty sure that the relationship ended, shortly after that. I don't think that boy appreciated why he was obligated to change a tire, and my sister didn't rightly appreciate a boyfriend who would complain about changing her tire.

Damn shame. My mother changed a tire, once, when her father taught her how to do it. It was part of learning how to drive. She had several flat tires after that, but some guy would always stop and change her tire for her. Then my sister has a flat, and has an actual guy already with her, and the guy is useless.
