I hope the Libertarian Party select a better candidate, next time.
Gary Johnson & Libertarian Thread
Re: Gary Johnson & Libertarian Thread
At a point he had 9.2, then he fell to 4.1 in the polls, he ended up getting like 3%. Pathetic. But Johnson and Weld did it to themselves. Weld kidna-sorta endorsed Hillary, multiple times.
I hope the Libertarian Party select a better candidate, next time.

Agree about Weld, but I don't think it's as bad as you think. Poll numbers are always high for 3rd parties in the beginning and then drop as they don't get included in the debates and we get closer to election day. All of that media coverage they received in the beginning ended once the media found out they were pulling more Hillary voters than Trump voters like they wanted.Steve32 wrote:At a point he had 9.2, then he fell to 4.1 in the polls, he ended up getting like 3%. Johnson 2012 got 1.2 million votes or 0.99%
Johnson 2016 got 4 million votes or 3%
Johnson 2012 raised $2.3 million in donations.
Johnson 2016 raised $11.4 million in donations.
I would say getting three times the vote and seeing an almost five-fold increase in your donations is pretty darn good. Especially in a race where on the surface you'd think he'd perform well because so many people were so turned off by the other two candidates, but the amount of fear-mongering going on this cycle actually swayed some of my friends that usually vote third party to vote for Hillary because they just couldn't imagine a Trump presidency.
Creating a 50 state ground game is really hard, especially when you can't tap into those big corporate donations or matching federal funds like the other parties do. All things considered, this was a really good showing for the LP, and now that Maine voters passed a ranked-choice ballot initiative Tuesday night, we might get a glimpse in 2020 on what 3rd parties can do when people aren't forced to choose from the lesser of two evils.
Re: Gary Johnson & Libertarian Thread
You are right about that, but with a good choice of VP and without the Social Justice Warrior attitude on screen + better campaign, he could easily get the 5% if not more. He had only a few TV interview and he failed at those. I'm not talking about the Aleppo thing, but the one where he started yelling at a reporter for using the term "illegal immigrant". He had the chance to give interviews to the largest gun channels, anti-(war on drugs) channels, libertarian, anarcho-capitalist, capitalist, business, anti-tax and all kind of other channels and communities, reaching tenmillions of subscribers/people, but he didn't. Would be a several hours job. He didn't do it. He didn't work on it. He just expected his followers do do everything for him and that's now how it works.
I hope Austin Petersen is going to be in his position in 2020. I don't know too much about him yet, but one thing is sure, he does talk with his followers, and he is not questioning the 2nd Amendment.

AP is a cool guy. Currently the way he talks sounds like bumper sticker slogans, so hopefully he can work on that and improve his resume a bit by 2020.
