New Shelby Mustang GT350 & Challenger Hellcat

Post by MarcSpaz »

For all you car guys and gals out there....

So, I bought a Challenger Hellcat for my wife last Mother's Day. Lindsay has been a little mad at me because I drive it all the time (big shock, right?). Well, I picked up a GT350 about a month ago so I could have "my sport car" LOL. Its been a fun car to drive so far. My plan is to get it out on the track at Summit Point and Dominion Raceway in the Spring.

Got up to almost 170 on the straight at the end of this video.

If it wasn't red, I'd like it. That's a mean looking Mustang.

Thanks, H! Lindsay says I might as well ask every cop I see for a ticket. LOL That red sticks out like a champ.

Well, Marc -- perhaps not quite in the same league HP wise this is my wife's car. It only has 400 HP.

When we were driving for MCF (ford dealer) I did drive a 662HP Mustang from Kentucky to Va.

That's a great looking vert! Don't know how far from me you guys live, but if it's close enough, you should come to one of our weekly cruise-ins before the season is over. I would love to see the Camaro in person and you guys would really enjoy seeing some of the cars that show up.

Is the MCF car a GT500?

It's crazy that we have gotten to the point in the car world were someone sincerely used the expression "it only has 400 hp". LOL

We are in New Castle just north of Roanoke.

Yep...only 400 hp. Mama didn't like the sound so we took it to a local muffler shop in Roanoke. Now it sounds better than it looks. It crackles if you know what I mean. Pretty awesome.

If I recall correctly the car was a black 6 speed Shelby Cobra.

Only 400 hp? I think my 15 year old 4 cylinder Toyota might make 150 hp.

I had a Mustang convertable, once, when I lived in Florida. It was a ragged out '86 LX, but the most fun $500 car that I've had. I had a slow night at work and created a MySpace page for it. (Remember when MySpace was relevant? Lmao). Amazingly, it still exists, and can be seen here:

I even won a race in it, one time. But, that had more to do with the terrain chosen by my opponents. These guys in lowered Hondas, with expensive body kits and bee-fart mufflers chose to race me on a road riddled with train crossings. The had to slow to 1mph and cross at an angle. I did not. I spent most of the race airborne, lol. Ahh, fun times.

I know exactly what you mean. I love that sound.

The 2013/14 Mustang GT500 is likely the best "obtainable" Supercars ever built. I'm glad you had the chance to enjoy one for those kind of miles. I would have been in pain from smiling for so long. LOL

I don't know what's more cool... the car or the fact that the page is still up! I love the LX Fox Body Mustang. Someday, when I retire, I hope to restore a notch back.

The guy that I bought that Mustang from had intended to build a race car out of it, but he ended up finding a notch back after he had already bought the convertable. The notch back was what he had really wanted anyway, so he bought that and sold me the drop top.

I really liked the appearance of the white top on the black body, coupled with the LX luggage rack on the trunk, as opposed to a spoiler. I was also partial to the quad-headlamp set up, over the bigger headlights found on the '87's. On the hardtops, I do generally prefer the notchback to the fastbacks; although I remember looking at fastback with T-tops that I really liked. It may have been a '79. That was in the late 90's, when I was living in NY. I can't recall why I didn't buy it.

I want to find another 80-86 Mustang convertable, and duplicate my old one. I had fun painting spider webs and little bats all over the 1st one. My wife, of course, has declared that she refuses to be seen in such an automobile. She also wants to know why I'm not buying her Hellcats and Camaros, lmao.

Where are the well disciplined people who can drive a vehicle like that just to pick up a few groceries?

Well, I know. Few at my house. The Hellcat feels like The Good Ship Lollipop when you drive it casually. The Mustang gets driven to work almost every day. Has 2500 miles already.

I may have to park the Mustang soon though. The Challenger has all-weather tires, but the Mustang has extreme summer time performance tires. It doesn't like 50 degree weather or colder. Very slick because they harden up.

SHMIV, I know what your TBH is speaking of, back in the day I had a 72 240Z but of course had to drop in a nicely built 350 Chevy V8. Made a really nice sports car into an absolute monster. Funny thing a co-worker just bought himself a GT 350 White with Blue stripes. Son recently bought a final edition Mitsubishi EVO, and for a little 4 banger 4 door car that thing is almost scary fast. No where near the Hell Cat, or the Shelby's, but we did drive a Scat Pack Challenger before he settled on the EVO. Believe it or not the EVO was actually quicker which surprised me, I thought the Challenger would have killed it. Nice cars guys, I look forward to getting myself a nice toy in the near future.

Yeah I hope they bring it back again, but since he got his, and I found out they only brought 1600 numbered units to the US, it will actually keep at least a good bit of it's value. It is hard to beat a 300+ HP 3K pound car with all wheel drive for shear fun on the street. That 72 Z I had was 420 give or take HP, with a pair of 150HP NOS kits, it was a lot of fun to shock Mustangs, Camaro's, Vettes, even a few bikes. Only real issue I was early 20's and it was a ticket looking for a place and time to happen.

That '72 240z sounds nasty. In general, I'm not real big on foreign cars, but I have always liked the early Z's.
