Installing a New Wrangler Soft Top

Post by WVUBeta1904 »

Man, those new factory soft tops are always such a b*tch to get on! Makes me wish I had access to a heated garage; really makes things a whole lot easier. I was fortunate enough that my old top lasted a little over 13 years before it bit the dust...thank God that replacements aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be. Hard tops are still going for $1300+, and while they are nice, they are not even close to being as convenient as a vinyl soft top.

Marc - I believe you also have a wrangler? Any previous/current issues with your rig?

I helped my buddy Jim install a Half Top on his '06 Wrangler last September .It actually went easier than I thought. We installed it in my garage and used a space heater to really make the vinyl soft and stretch . After installed it was like a drum and the fit was perfect !

I'm glad you were able to get it installed easily...they can really test your patience sometimes. This install was one of the more irritating times I've had. Good work utilizing the space heater; vinyl can be stubborn!

Yup. Waiting for a nice sunny day with temperatures above 72 is key. Let the top sit in the driveway for a few hours to get nice and pliable.

I found a used hard top for my Wrangler and sold the soft top.
A huge improvement.
I now consider the soft top totally worthless.

I had a hardtop on my '04 Wrangler and on my '73 CJ5 . Both were more enjoyable with the hardtop installed .
