Not yet. a 300 sounds good, I almost did that but decided to stay with 5.56.

I am going to make a 10.5 inch SBR, starting with a pistol first. I am waiting till next month to get the upper, and taking time to look into it more.

Let me know how your build goes

Its been a while.. but I ordered my upper 2 weeks ago. Took a chance and went with a lower cost upper from hardenedarms, I have found good reviews, and a couple bad, but I am hoping it will work out.

10.5 inch upper

Details from site:
Black anodized mil-spec finished upper receiver
Feed ramps for increased feeding reliability on barrel and upper
Laser etched T-Marked upper receiver
Chrome Moly High End Steel Barrel
Black Mag-Phos Finish
Chambered in 5.56 NATO
10.5" HBAR Profile barrel with M4 Extension
1/7 Barrel Twist
.750" diameter at gas block
1/2x28 threaded muzzle/barrel
Low profile gas block
Barrel dimpled to secure gas block
Carbine length gas system
A2 flash hider
10" Tactical Quad Rail without endcap

First a pistol, then SBR. Tax stamp is in process since 12/31/15.. and it is still stuck "processing"

Trying to decide if I am going to put one of those flaming pig flash hiders on it, or if I can get similar functionality for something less expensive

Any ideas?

depends what you want the muzzle device to do for you.

short barrels mean loud and flashy... its hard to do much about that when 1/3 of the propellant is burning outside the barrel.

Was talking with a guy last night his stamp took 4 months from the pending date... but he went in before 41P, my understanding is things a much more backed up now.

Yeah basically trying to redirect the noise and flames forward, I think the pig does that so just want to see if anyone knows of something comparable.

Hopefully this wont be 4 months, but if it is thats ok too. Thats why I am making it as a pistol first. I should have my upper by the middle or end of March. They are back logged on orders.

I have Pig knock offs on two of my builds. One on a 7" pistol and the other on 16" rifle. I like them. They are built the same, just no etched pig on the side. I think they ran me $65 each, so about half as much as a pig. They do a great job of directing the gas and sound forward.

Beware, there are some knock offs that look similar but are not constructed the same way and have heard they can fail (read blow apart) from the pressure.

Well I got my pistol completed and test fired tonight!

Overall I am pretty happy with it. Real loud, going to get one of those pig sound re directors or similar thing next... but its fun to shoot. I put a Primary Arms red dot on it and that was easy to work with , almost have it centered.

I did the laser engraving last week, a guy in Oakton VA has a laser engraver in his garage:

Then the Upper was delivered today:

Now all I need is my tax stamp and I can put a stock and forward grip on it.. cant wait.

Exactly 3 months after sending in the eform.

Now to figure out the stock and forward grip. Thinking of using magpul flat dark earth standard stuff.

Will post pics when done.

Wow. I've heard they are usually taking 9+ months. That's pretty good turn around. I've been holding off for a few reasons but the wait was the biggest thing stopping me.

If you submit online,it's a fraction of the time. Last year I did two that both went through in less than 45 days.
