Gun conceals as a Smartphone

This is pretty cool. It is a two-shot .380 caliber.

Of course now none of us will ever get through Airport Security with a normal smartphone.

It's certainly novel. And the spy-ware aspect is appealing to me.

I note that the article suggests that that it could be carried openly in open carry states. I think though, that you might find yourself in hot water in Virginia. While you may be fine if you have your chp, I think the nature of the device would cause it to be concealed even if you taped it to your forehead. So, it would not be suitable for open carry.

It's been a while since I've read the applicable laws, so I may be misremembering.

The only advantage? Wouldn't need to hunt for a holster, there are plenty in the Wal-mart Electronic aisle!

Somehow, SWMBO got an e-mail about these and announced she wanted one this morning. She's never fired a gun in all the 46 years we've been married that I can remember. I don't know whether to be glad or very afraid.

But those two sharp edges of that fold-out grip reminds me of those Leatherman-style multi-tool pliers where the edges of the grip are almost as sharp as the knife inside and it looks to me like they would be hard on your hand when you fired it; particularly for a lady.

I note that the article says, towards the end, that Ideal Conceal (who makes the firearm ) claims that only CHP holders will be allowed to purchase the thing.

So... how does Ideal Conceal plan on enforcing that? Once they sell their product to an FFL, isn't it out of their hands?

Considering more and more states are dropping licensing and going permitless, I'm not seeing an FFL enforcing for them either.

Comments about these have been everywhere! Am I the only one who finds news of an over-sized .380 derringer a big yawn?

On the other hand, depending on a state's laws, there should be some interesting test cases about whether holding it in your hand is brandishing and if clipped to your belt is concealed or open carry!
