Hatfields Gunsmithing Manassas

If you got a good deal or great service from a shop or range and you want to brag about them, here's the place to do it. Likewise, if you are unhappy about someone's service or feel like you've been ripped off, we want to know that too!

Hatfields Gunsmithing Manassas

Post by Ron71 »

Anybody have recent service done at Hatfields in Manassas? I brought in my Bushmaster for work there during the first week of December and they said it would be 6-8 weeks. What I found weird was they don't give you any kind of receipt or claim ticket. They tell you that "your driver's license is your receipt" and that your firearm is in their logbook and that I will get a call when the work is complete. Just strange to me not to have any evidence that they have my stuff.

Now besides having odd hours (Tues - Fri 2PM to 7PM and then Saturday 9AM to 4PM) they don't answer their phone. I've tried to call both yesterday and today to inquire about my firearm but am unable to reach anyone. I guess I'll have to drive out there Tuesday in person to see if the place is still occupied?!?

I've seen some reviews of the place posted in various online forums and I guess I will probably be happy once I get my gun back, but I feel as though I'm in the Twilight Zone.

I've never heard of them, but their website says that they have the stomach flu and will be closed today. That's probably why they're not answering the phone.

Regarding the other things, such as no claim check - I dunno.

Wow thanks, that was not on their website as of yesterday evening when I looked. Again strange that the ENTIRE shop is ill - they have more than just one person working there. Oh well whatever - as long as they fix my junk! :tommygun:

I had work done at Hatfields and they did a fantastic job. However, they will charge you if you call them. They have a weird policy of "do not call us to check on your firearm" or a fee will be added to your final bill. I was in shock when I heard it. I went ahead and gave it to them anyway because i needed the work done. It took them 2 months. Like I said, they did a nice job but I won't deal with them again.

Thanks R073 - you see how weird they are? Yeah, thanks for the heads up. Now because of what you just said I will wait for them to call me like a good little customer. 'tarded...

Heh. Being a service guy, I FULLY understand the desire to charge customers for calling.

But, I can't say that I actually support the practice. It's one of those things that are funny to joke about, but probably ought not be implemented.

Hmmm...

Throw some McCoys in the mix, and you'll have a full blown mess on your hands.
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

I had some work done there a month or two ago. It wasn't anything massive, I had some brass removed from inside the barrel of my G17. They picked up the phone when I called to see if they were open and to check hours, had the gun back to me inside of a week and only charged me thirty bucks. I had a pretty good experience with them.

Sounds weird. I can't imagine not obtaining a receipt from someone with whom I left my property.

I highly recommend Classic American Gunsmith in Charlottesville. He does very fine work and handles business with total professionalism.
