I can definitely understand that....dealing with the companies and haggling with them, while not being taken advantage of is frustrating.....Over the air was a lot easier and less of a hassle. It was kinda funny though, I call Verizon tonight and finally got over to their retention department, when I asked the operator where they were located, she said the Philippines. So much for keeping jobs at home. She tried to help as best she could, but I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I was on hold for 45 min and never got to speak to a supervisor. Dealing with these companies is a headache..... Here was Nugent's response about the Sportsman's Channel being dropped by Verizon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=6&v=YO5o1ebcEcc He hits the nail on the head....SHMIV wrote:That's cool. I'll have to set up an antenna at home. I stopped trying to watch free tv in the truck. It got too frustrating. Every time another truck cruises in front of mine, looking for a hole, it causes my signal to disappear. Usually, it's right at some critical point in the show, too.
TV on DVD, while pricey, is the least frustrating way to go for me, right now. I know what I want to watch, I can watch it at a time that is convenient for me, and I don't have to worry with signal interference (or, in a state like Nebraska or Wyoming, a complete lack of signal). I figure that it still costs less than burning hotspot data, and probably costs less than paying for satellite, considering that I don't have much time every month to watch TV, anyway. Plus, I'm not paying for a bunch of programming that I don't want to see.

It looks like the Outdoor Channel has put together a streaming service
http://videos.myoutdoortv.com/motv/
There is also a channel on Roku at MOTV
This is pretty cool....

Reminds me of the old Roach Motel commercials. Comcast subscribers can check in but they can never check out.Mindflayer wrote:Come on over to Comcast.

Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
I am finding that when you try to add it to your roku setup it wants you to go to a third party....vezo.tv The issue I am running into is that on the vezo.tv subscription page where you ask for credit card info and personal information, it is not coming up as HTTPS which is used to protect highly confidential online transactions like online banking and online shopping order forms. I would hold off signing up with them until they fix it... I have a tech support request into vezo to see what the best way to go is....
I do have the online subscription to the outdoor channel I created at http://myoutdoortv.com and I might just see if I can cast from my laptop to the tv for the same thing.... Tech support at myoutdoortv is saying that the service offered through VezoTV is completely separate of their service and one does not provide access to the other. Keep you posted...

That might be my next step... Trying to make sure that the family is migrated off of Verizon email...Mindflayer wrote:Come on over to Comcast.

Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
It looks like the only way to watch it on Roku is to cancel the subscription through the MOTV site and subscribe again to MOTV on Vezo.tv. I sent MOTV an email to confirm.va599 wrote:That's the one... but having difficulty with signing into to it. Sounds good.... The other thing I am noticing is that some of the shows listed are not current. I went ahead and canceled the membership through MOTV. I think you are right that I would have to subscribe through vezo.tv Let me know what you hear back....OakRidgeStars wrote:It looks like the only way to watch it on Roku is to cancel the subscription through the MOTV site and subscribe again to MOTV on Vezo.tv. Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
They told me the same thing they told you. I canceled my trial membership on the MOTV site as well so I can evaluate the content on the Vezo.tv Roku channel. The downside is that I won't be able to watch content on the web now.
This is becoming very confusing and possibly too much trouble if I can only view content on the Roku.

Verizon cable was crap. They started out ok but then started cutting all the channels I liked. So we cut them. We only have internet now and we do Amazon Fire and Netflix and we are just fine.

Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
We still have Cox but only basic because of the Nationals--big baseball family here and MASN only works through cable-providers (racket). I did remove all the cable channels except basic and bought a ROKU. Tried Apple TV but they do not offer shooting or outdoor channels so returned it to Best Buy and got the ROKU. ROKU has a bunch of outdoor and shooting specific channels and 90 percent of them are free...they even have the three NRA channels which are really good (an again, free). Hoping one day MASN breaks-up with the cable companies and I can call Cox and walk!
Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
Well I made the swtich finally....it took a while to get my ducks in a row....I ended up buying a mohu leaf antenna for $40 and used the Roku and dropped the fios ultimate TV package. I had everyone in the house stop using the verizon email accounts and we all swtiched over to gmail. Next step was to port out the verizon landline to Ooma and the last step was to get a new intenet connection to the house. I went from $138 a month to internet only with Comcast for $34.99 for the first year and $45 a month for year two. Internet speed of 25/5. For TV I have supplimented with netflix for $11.99 a month, I tried the trial version of slingtv but wasn't sold. When I went to return the router and drop the package at UPS to be shipped back there were other people standing in line doing the esame thing. Do youself a favor and see what your options are....I would have never begun this process if the channels were left in place. The outdoor channel is getting ready to vamp up its streaming service within the next few months too. That's a difference of roughly a $1,000 a year. Waiting for the dust to settle as Verizon finalizes the last bill. Keep you posted.
Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
One of the reasons why we haven't had any type of tv in about nine years, after some garbage I want through with comcrap when I worked there back in 2008, we have been just fine and dandy and it's actually amazing how one can just get used to not having a television on in the house all the time.

Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
Well, I tried to go the Comcast route, but due to their lack of reliable service, which is a huge factor for me because of work, I had to switch back. Since I'm the only one of the house who watches the outdoor and sportsman channels, I now simply do so on my Mac, and if I want a big screen, I have the high res adapter to play it on the large TV. Now even when the power goes out, I'm back up and on-line in side of 10 minutes.

Re: Verizon fios cancels hunting and shooting channels
The ones I occasionally watched were usually a 22 minute commercial surrounded by 8 minutes of commercials. The complete content was "buy this" with very little outside of that.
The very sponsors that paid for and produced these programs were the same ones that doomed them to a slow, or not so slow, death.
