VA votes for Convention of States

Post by Swampman »

Members of the VA House of Delegates voted in favor of House Joint Resolution 3 (HJR3) yesterday.
U.S. Constitution; application for a convention of the states. Makes application to Congress to call a convention of the states to propose amendments to the United States Constitution to restrain the abuse of power by the federal government.
Equally important, they passed HB1328 - http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604 ... HB1328+pdf

So, who will have the most influence with the politicians we "elected".

Us, the voters? Or the people who supply money, off the books benefits, and have dirt on the politicians?

This could end up badly, for all of us.

Sort of like the argument of why make new guns laws if we won't enforce the ones we already have?

Why propose new amendments to control the federal government when they aren't following the ones we have now?

I'm hearing this might not survive the Senate. Bill might make it. If it does, betcha $50 agin' a dry horseturd that TMAC will veto HB 1328 so that "progressives" will not free constrained from proposing/supporting amendments EXPANDING federal reach.

??? Can the Governor veto a RESOLUTION? HMMMM........

This part looks pretty good:

"5. An amendment convention of the states convened pursuant to this application shall be limited to consideration of the topics specified herein and no other. This application is made with the express understanding that an amendment that in any way seeks to amend, modify, or repeal any provision of the Bill of Rights shall not be authorized for consideration at any stage. This application shall be void ab initio if ever used at any stage to consider any change to any provision of the Bill of Rights"
