After being here in VA now for over four years after 30 plus years in Ohio I've come to REALLY appreciate the idea of a state legislature that is only in session for 60 days a year. They get there, get to work, and don't dither around.
The Ohio legislature is in session, except for a couple short recesses, year round.
They take their job description as "law maker" very seriously and are CONSTANTLY adding more and more laws on top of laws on top of laws. And, of course, they keep raising their pay.
The
Ohio Constitution is a relatively short document but the
Ohio Revised Code (ORC) (state laws) is HUGE!
Then there is the
OAC, the Ohio Administrative Code, which is the regulations produced by the different departments of the state to implement the laws in the ORC.
I've seen Ohio gun related legislation in committees for over a year or longer.
I went into culture shock when I moved here and found out how few gun related state laws VA has.
(/rant off)
That being said, it's obvious to me that the Mobile City Council is a group of people with the "law maker" mind set.
