Let him waste a billion dollars on a doomed run. I think that most Americans, even if they do support some form of gun control, would find his extreme nanny state politics to be distasteful.
I'd be more concerned if he had the backing of the Democrat Party, but even then, the idea of a possible nationwide ban on salt and large, sugary beverages would be offensive to pretty much anyone outside of NYC, Frisco, and Seattle.
So, let him run. He'll only take votes away from whoever the Democrats choose. Plus, a billion dollars wasted here, is a billion less that he'll be spending on promoting gun control in states that don't concern him.
